High-Speed Pursuit on Ohio Turnpike Ends With Taser Deployment

Sandusky County, Ohio — On October 18, 2024, Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers observed a Ford Flex traveling at 90 mph in a 60 mph zone, without a visible license plate. Despite efforts by troopers to initiate a stop, the driver continued at speeds over 100 mph, weaving through multiple cities. OSHP, assisted by local law enforcement agencies, followed the vehicle across county lines, ultimately deploying stop sticks to slow the vehicle down. However, the suspect evaded initial attempts to bring the chase to an end, prompting a secondary pursuit further along the turnpike in Sandusky County. The chase ended when the Ford entered a construction zone, weaving between barriers before colliding with a guardrail.

The driver then attempted to flee on foot but was swiftly pursued by a trooper, who warned the suspect before deploying a Taser, leading to the suspect’s apprehension. The suspect, Identified as Daveon Jackson of Detroit, Michigan, reportedly had ammunition in his possession and was charged with fleeing and eluding as well as receiving stolen property, both third-degree felonies. Dashcam footage captured the intense final moments of the chase, which ended without injuries to law enforcement personnel. Jackson and the passenger, who was not charged in the incident, were taken to the hospital for evaluation and later released. The chase ended without injuries to law enforcement personnel.
