New York’s Michael Belfiore ’pill-mill’ doctor case (updates in links) – Everything Law and Order Blog

UPDATES: http://bit.ly/388EqmL
A New York doctor charged in the overdose deaths of two of his patients sat down with Crime Watch Daily in 2017 to tell his side of the story. Michael Belfiore was later convicted in 2018. UPDATES: http://bit.ly/388EqmL

In July 2020, Michael Belfiore was denied a request for a new trial following his May 2018 conviction on 28 federal charges related to his prescribing of opioids. http://bit.ly/388EqmL

Belfiore filed a motion to have the guilty verdict overturned, arguing that his attorney at the time misguided him in rejecting a plea deal. The deal — a guilty plea to one distribution charge — could have saved Belfiore jail time. http://bit.ly/388EqmL

  1. Dr.Belfiore was a victim of the health care systems "war on opiates". He did NOTHING wrong or illegal. This was a witch hunt ,period.
And it has only gotten worse, stupider and more ridiculous as time has passed.
I wonder how many legitimate pain patients have committed suicide, rather than go through the hell of withdrawal along with their legitimate pain issues.
Watching this really made me sick at my stomach, knowing that Dr.Belfiore was basically railroaded and sent to prison for NOTHING he did wrong…

  2. What a load of sensationalized horse shit. 600,000 doses of opioid in 3 years? How many patients? Somebody getting 3 pills a day for chronic pain gets 1080 per year. 200,000/1080 = 185 patients. The media lapdogs love this shit too.

  3. I initially believed him and they did convict him. He was overprescribing.
He was writing excessive amounts of oxycodone. Only the rarest patients need over 90mme a day.
He was writing for 30mg to be taken 5 times a day. That’s too much
    He didn’t deserve 23 years.

  4. After pt leaves the office they have to be responsible for taking the medication as prescribed. But when patient dies, doctor is to be blamed, instead of patient has its own responsibility

  5. Because of a Supreme Court ruling, DEA agents now have to meet a higher standard of evidence before they can prosecute a doctor. Also, the CDC has published new guidelines that have done away with the old 90 MME limit. There is reason to believe that things are going to get better, though it's moving slowly.

  6. as an addict its not the doctors fault. if they didn't get them there they would've found somewhere else. all the people saying not to take advantage of a doctor prescribing pain meds. when you are an addict you don't care about that you just want the pills and its way safer than getting shit off the street. the opioid crisis is not going away even after they have cracked down on prescriptions.
