Jennifer Crumbley, 45, is the first parent in the United States to face charges in a school shooting committed by their child. Crumbley’s teenage son opened fire inside his Michigan high school in 2021, killing four students. Prosecutors accuse Crumbley and her husband of involuntary manslaughter for giving their son access to a handgun and not taking his mental health struggles seriously. Crumbley took to the stand Thursday to explain her side of the story. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber breaks down the top nine moments from her gripping testimony.

  1. I’m sorry, but if for a moment you think your son isn’t doing well (after the pet dog passing, his friend leaving etc. as factors especially) you do NOT purchase a gun for the child. I don’t know who is gifting 15 year old’s guns in the first place!

  2. The fact that both his Parents were at the school hours before he decided to start. Maybe his parent's could've been the target or he wanted them to watch to finally get their attention. He knew ❤the drawing would've initiated a call home.

  3. Sometimes kids go carzy and the parents are NOT CRAZY……Sometimes the kids go through something traumatic and parents didn't get them the help they needed cause they didn't know where to go to get the help then they act out later in life either by addiction or a bad crime.

  4. Guess parents are supposed to snoop in their kids journals now until their not supposed to. The schools knew and have counseling paid by taxpayers. Sad for all involved. Kids killed, their families, killer and his family. Just sad.

  5. The school needs to assume that the child may have access to a gun. You always err on the side of caution. The system is set up to destroy the little guy to protect itself to avoid any liability.

  6. It's an interesting question and I feel ambivalent about the verdict. Does this mean that the parent or absentee parent of every 13-17 year old gang-banger in bad communities who kill innocent people should be held criminally accountable? What is the difference between these scenarios where the parents are completely asleep at the switch and negligent? Morally, they are guilty but I'm not sure if this should be the correct verdict legally.
