Wrongful Conviction: The Exoneration of Willie T. Donald – TCDPOD – Everything Law and Order Blog

In this week’s True Crime Daily Podcast: We have a special episode. Our guest is Willie “Timmy” Donald, an Indiana man wrongly convicted of robbery and murder who served more than 20 years in prison before he was exonerated. We discuss how Mr. Donald went car-shopping with family one night in 1992 and ended up in a police lineup, how police and prosecutors let the wrong man go to prison — and what has changed since.

Also joining us is Willie T. Donald’s attorney, Thomas Vanes; and Dr. Nicky Jackson, coordinator of the Criminal Justice Program at Purdue University Northwest in Indiana, who is the creator and chair of the Willie T. Donald Exoneration Advisory Coalition. Criminal defense attorney Alison Triessl co-hosts with Ana Garcia.

  1. How can we get in touch with William does anyone know?
I just watched the People magazine episode from NZ & I’d like to donate him some money – this is anyone’s worst nightmare & can’t believe he has had no compensation thus far

  2. This is sO awful, it's just sickening
The way Timmy was convicted, give me a fucking break
Being locked up, and knowing people think you did it😔
This man needs to get some money compensation, since there's nO way to give his 24 yrs back
Timmy, I am so so sorry, and sickened by what was done to you
I wish for you so many beautiful hood things🙏
Thank you to the attorney, and Dr, helping him

  3. Willie, God bless u brother. I did a year in Indiana and I was guilty. Doing time is hard enough when you know you messed up. I can't imagine how much mental and emotional anguish you went through all those years. Respect for getting your degrees and making the best of it. I hope you find peace, happiness and success in all you do.

  4. Extremely sad, yet so motivational. Hopefully, laws will continue to be updated to prevent things like this from happening. Can't happen soon enough! For not taking that plea deal, for not allowing the label of criminal or liar to harden his heart, for his accomplishments Mr. Donald is what I would consider a true hero. I understand why everyone on the panel is so passionate about wrongful convictions, especially ones like this when it's clearly deliberate. Great job to everyone!! This episode alone is one of the reasons why this is my favorite show!!

  5. White juries and racist courts do this to black men all the time. Then they do shows like this with one white guy or woman playing like they are a hero. Maybe they just need to ask their system to stop being so racist. It is racist through and through and they know it. The system simply gives white people a chance to play like they are heroes when they are not really. If there system wasn't racist no innocent black men would be getting wrongfully convicted. Maybe they need to fight to change their system not okay hero in individual cases.

  6. I cried multiple times, I went through many emotions, from disgust, to shock them finally humbleness. You Timmy are amazing, your strength, will power, SO MANY ADJECTIVES I could go on forever. You Dr. Jackson and the Coalitionteam at PNW, wow! Mr. Vanes , I mean again WOW WOW WOW! A true hero, fighting for justice. To Timmy's family and everyone who had his back (including the students/ journalists). It took an army and you all did it, never backing down or giving up. Hats off 🎩. I listen and watch so many True Crime videos, shows, documentaries etc. about everything, including wrongful convictions. From a psychological standpoint it teaches me many things… But I will NEVER EVER forget this story, there are things in your life that happen , or things you read , and they will stick with you forever. This is one of them. Timmy, I am humbled. I hope you are having the best life. I will never forget this

  7. He’s the prime example of how many innocents get wrongly accused for the crime they never committed.

My heart goes out to people like him and let Karma decide what yo do next for those who had falsely accused him for the crime he had nothing to do with.

  8. I see there's a go fund me page for the people fighting for him and So many others ❤ BUT WHERE is his Timmy's go fund me page??? They OWE him millions of dollars!! Period. If they are allowed to pay him nothing this shit will NEVER STOP!! PAY THE MAN!!!

  9. There are so many innocent people in prison because it was before the DNA technologies that we have today. Now DNA technologies are proving these peoples innocence but it still takes years for the appeal process even though DNA has proved their innocence. It’s like they still gotta sit for a year or 2 before their last court date to prove their innocence. Even though DNA testing has been done and proved them innocent. You would think once proven innocent they should be released immediately.
