Cachar urges brick kilns to adopt new tech to cut emissions

Silchar: In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, the Cachar administration has directed brick kiln operators to adopt modern technologies such as zigzag and vertical kilns to enhance energy efficiency and reduce emissions.
At a Wednesday meeting with brick kiln owners, district commissioner Mridul Yadav highlighted the importance of balancing economic progress with environmental protection. The gathering at the DC’s office aimed to transform the sector by addressing environmental, ethical and legal challenges faced by the brick kiln industry.
The conference outlined key directives, including mandatory compliance with legal requirements such as obtaining pollution control certificates, paying royalties and securing no-objection certificates (NOCs).
The administration reinforced its dedication to workers’ welfare by emphasising strict compliance with labour regulations and zero tolerance towards child labour. An official said the child protection department would take firm action against those who violate children’s rights in this sector.
DC Yadav, addressing the gathering, stressed the significance of harmonising industrial development with environmental sustainability and social responsibility. He called upon stakeholders to collaborate towards a future where economic growth aligns with ecological and ethical considerations.
The meeting’s outcomes are set to transform operational standards in Cachar’s brick kiln sector. An official noted that stakeholders have unanimously supported the administration’s vision for a cleaner, safer and more compliant industry, marking a new phase of sustainable development in the region.
The meeting saw participation from senior officials, including additional DC Antara Sen, circle officers Maria Tanim (Sonai), Rituparna Bhadra (Lakhipur), the assistant commissioner (Cachar), and regional executive engineer of the Pollution Control Board Arabinda Das.
