When I was 16 I joined a Wado ryu karate club that was just starting up. My instructor Sensei you call him had learned to fight on the street and had found karate was a good discipline which kept him from getting tossed in jail. I would go 4 to 5 times a week a session was 2 hours of floor exercises and 2 hours of kata and sparring. I did this for 10 months after which I got a good summer job and I lost interest. I told my instructor I was leaving the club and no hard feelings. He said it was great having you but "Kid please don't get in a street fight as it would be too painfull for me to cry at your funeral" He didn't say it to be condescending he just knew how viscous it could be out there. Those self defense tricks they teach on those videos are just going to enrage your attacker and make it all worse.
The reason for their students: people love mystic, magic and cult. Gain, but no pain.
The reason for the teachers: money, lots of it.
I wouldnt compare them to cults … Or cult leaders.. Id say they are more like scam artists… They are in it for the money and just rip ppl off
Dillman was legit once.
John C Kim was cult school
When I was a kid, I encountered a bully who had studied the martial arts by watching a lot of Chinese martial arts movies. Now, I was not exactly a prodigy or anything at it, but unlike that doofus, I'd actually spent a lot of time going to a real Karate dojo, and had won a few competitions and the like and, added to that, I'd won a brown belt. What all of that meant was- I easily won the fight with the bully- but, because I was a little sloppy in my technique, managed to put the other kid in the hospital with a couple of compound fractures and some other injuries. The thing that the doofus didn't know was, the martial arts in movies and TV- are slowed way down, so that they can be detected by the human eye- or the camera

Guyana is not in south america, fyi.
what martials arts do you train Mike, anything other than bjj?
Mike The Cop I can't remember what it was called, but I watched a really interesting lecture on cult recruitment at a California university (apparently it's a problem there.) One of the most useful parts was when the psychologist said everyone has at least one moment in their lives where they are susceptible to cult recruitment. Most of us are just lucky, and never encounter any at that time.
IT WAS FLAVORAID! NOT KOOLAID! Get it right geez.
Lesson always walk to the last lemonade stand they give out cookies as well
The difference between Jones town and a martial arts school is if you don't like the martial arts school you can leave. If you didn't like Jones town you left in a body bag.
Mike the Cop subscribers: How many of you will support Trump in 2020? Lets hear it for THE MAN!
Funny thing is , this expands to most all religion / political ideas.
It’s almost like going to the DNC 😆
Great Video loved it. That's exactly what I have been staying that's it that's everything in package right there. NHL Jim Jones for that guy in Waco Texas that I can't recall thousands of them that want to leave being controlled. And people just have to follow something for whatever stupid reason just to feel like they're part of something. The Republican or Democrat same thing tribal mentality that's what it is. Wake up do some research get an education get a conscience would be the first thing and let's deal with this problem
You rule Mikeeeeeeeee love ya 💘
Somewhere Theo Vonn is sitting around mute while this guy wears a seashell necklace
This topic has been done over and over…why did I come here? Ffs
I’d hate to point out the facts, but people are stupid.
DO YOUR RESEARCH FOLKS!!!
There is a big difference between belt factories, and a true martial arts school!
I'd love to see you respond sherry graham potter's post to Nike.
Ameridote a is not fake ask Master Ken
For the same reason people buy into fake gods. It makes them feel better about themselves.
Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiike
The lemonade stand analogy is soooooooo accurate……. it's not even funny!
Gunjutsu…
"Most martial arts are a combination of conditioning and lies." – Bruce Lee
"You preserve your art and style by protecting it politically." – Honest Response, J.K.
LOL……….you spread lies, B.S. rules, and myths to demonize more effective martial arts to get them banned.
Speaking to the Jim Jones thing, y'all are so young.
I'm not, and I remember the sheer fucking horror of that monster that wanted all his sheep to die on the pyre with him. Never quit reading history.
Have you seen the video of the guy who starts crap and then pulls his pants off? He strips down to speedos and the other guys turn and run. It looks like it works good, you guys should try that lol.
Apart from what you said I think another important factor is the exigencies, in real dojos teachers make things hard for you to make sure you can fight under pressure, while in fake martial arts you rarely sparr or train with resistance
Krav maga is martial arts, change my mind?
I'm a scientology kwon do expert. A xenu degree duck belt.
I can clear with a simple gesture.
OK once again folks listen very carefully the reason why people buy into fake martial arts is BECAUSE and I quote: "Secret Deadly Dragon Fu is too deadly for competition; it is for use on the streets to cripple or maim your attackers in life and death situations ONLY". And, in addition to that repeat after me: I Refuse To Accept Reality And Have Substituted My Own. It Is Perfectly Legal For Me To Do The Stupid, Obnoxious, and Sometimes Even Dangerous Shit That I Do. It DOES NOT Matter What You Say Or Try To Explain To Me Because I Am Always Right and Everyone Else Are Always Wrong and I Will Continue To Engage In The Same Clearly Irrational Behavior …

Many years ago I had a karate instructor that took some classes from Dilman, but this was before he went off the deep end. They were basic joint locks and pain compliance techniques that many police officers know. The school that I went to was not associated with Dilman in any way so I hope that they avoided the Kool Aid. Back then basic Japanese Karate was fairly decent, though today I would probably go the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu route.
I was trained by a Dillman school, I never believed in the knockout with your mind. That said, I don't fully believe in all I was taught.
Because they are rewarded with promotions and can obtain a 1st degree black belt after 2 years of classes and “trainingâ€. It took me nearly 12 years to earn my brown belt and I had the chance to earn my 1st degree black belt a year later. People will pay anything to be rewarded with something like this that they do not earn through experience and discipline.
Guns > Martial Arts …So ends the math lesson.
OMG YOU HAVEN'T ACTIVATED WINDOWS! j/k You do you and screw Microsoft.
Whew…my dojo isn't a cult. We can learn from wherever we can find knowledge, they encourage it and know there is always things to learn, and different sources to learn from. They don't claim to know it all or only they are right.
