How Patricia Cornwell might be even more interesting than her creation, Kay Scarpetta – Everything Law and Order Blog

A frightfully brilliant prose-worthy assassin with the perseverance of a madwoman, Patricia Cornwell is methodical in her research and execution and thoroughly enjoys fusing facts with each and every flourish of her fictional deeds, blow by deadly blow.

  1. Until about 4 months ago I had never read a Patricia Cornwell book. My sister put me onto them and I have now read about 15 or so and enjoyed every one. I must be honest and say that there have been a couple which I have found hard to follow in places, but i have muddled through. I look forward to the Kay Scarpetta films. Well done Patricia.

  2. She's just as bad ass as I thought she'd be. I'm currently reading Depraved Heart in the Kay Scarpetta series. Her writing is incredible! It's hard to put down. Longest book series I've been able to actually commit to.

  3. Christ, I intensely dislike this woman. I've never seen a person so obsessed by affluence, success, fashion, knick knacks, fast cars & jets as well as hefty doses of botox.

After the 3rd Scarpetta novel, I figured out she'd eventually get stuck. Not only did her books move at a retentive, glacial pace, (mainly because she didn't know WHAT to write or how to develop characters like Marino), Scarpetta ended up a judgemental, obsessive, "there's-nothing-I-can't-do" person.

She'd ramble about expensive vehicles & flooring; or $100K kitchens – she'd claim to build them along with her carriage houses; or that she could speak perfect Italian (which, along with other massive problems in her books, such as being forever 43, led to one plot hole after another), & suddenly be a commander in the military, THEN the White House, with her famous face blasted all over NY so that every criminal in Scarpetta World wanted to be examined by her. Then there's Ultimate Bitch Lucy who reminds me of Cornwell herself.

Ultimately, I don't care that people here like her novels but I DO mind that she copy cats her own drivel in real life. And it's unlikeable. So Skip Quantum too, it's a crash & burn – seriously, I'm doing you all a favour.
