The family of Maya Kowalski, the subject of Netflix’s “Take Care of Maya,” allege that a report of child abuse from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital led to Beata Kowalski taking her own life. The Kowalski’s are suing doctors, the Department of Children and Families, and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital for $200 million dollars in connection to Beata’s death. According to court documents, the child abuse case against Beata was pushed forward after Maya’s physician confirmed her condition, complex regional pain syndrome, was not the fault of her parents. During the time Beata was separated from Maya, she took her own life.

  1. I’ve watched this trial about 4-5 times, trying to give the hospital staff the benefit of the doubt. But I have to say, it’s extremely sad how sick in the head some of the testimony was…and scary that they aren’t even aware of it.

Their inability to show even an ounce of empathy or emotion that a patient reports being harmed in their care, and is convinced it’s a ploy for a money making lawsuit – VERIFIES their confirmation bias that existed while Maya was there, and while on the stand.

This wasn’t a mistake or error, it was gross negligence; a lack of any kind of moral or compassionate dignity to the “people” who aren’t part of their “network”.

Their answers proved it – regardless of the questions! Poor Maya, and her Mother, and family. Her awarded damages were only a fraction of her suffering.

  2. Lisa "I don't recall, I don''t recall," she recalled an awful lot when the defense was questioning her, but plaintiff didn't her memory all of a sudden was terrible. I think it is so obvious the defense has told her to use that line when answering questions they don't want her to talk about.

  3. It is funny how the defense's Elaine Bredehoft knock off asked the judge to do something about the plaintiffs laughing, mocking and making funny faces at the defense's witnesses, because that's all I've seen coming from the defense table the entirety of the plaintiffs case. Primarily from her. Haha. I do have to admit though, after saying this, that i am hoping the hospital wins on appeal. They're not responsible for the actions of social services, even though i truly believe hospitals sure supposed to be sanctuary's where the hospital cannot call the police or give personal information of their patients to plover or government services. The state is not a person, therefore, cannot possibly take custody of a child. That's not how the constitution works. We have Liberties, we are Free human beings, created with individual rights by God, not property of the government system. But, according to the rules here, the hospital is not responsible. And there are a lot of shady things about this family. I can't believe they are actually awarded that amount, especially after the defense presented their case.

  4. I dont really understand why mark Anderson needed to be apart of this trial? He didnt really seem to have any part or importance to this case. I could be wrong but really all he talked about is how a Childs hospital should be run?

  5. I haven't thought one single witness for defense has been credible. The nurse made the hospital sound like a lovely walk in the park, which no one would believe who's been in one. I would have wanted to know who helped Maya brush her hair (answer = not enough people). The discussion on Bedi's evaluations was a snore. No one "exceeds" expectations on reviews. And for her to have a write up, I find it hard to believe she even "met" expectations if she's yelling at people. I really like how the PT therapist "gaslit" us on what we saw in the video. Because what he described is NOT what I saw at all!

  6. I just can’t stand the snotty way the defence speak to the lawyers for the plaintiffs. They’re screwing themselves by behaving higher than mighty and so disrespectful to the plaintiffs. I think they’re going to learn a hard lesson!!

  7. Came back to rewatch the Mark Anderson testimony after the bomb got dropped Wednesday.

Perhaps the defense attorneys will receive sanctions for providing false information to the jury.

    Liars.

  8. I am confused… why couldn’t Mayas mom be allowed to see her daughter under supervision at this time what would have been the issue for not allowing this at any time… that’s just insane to treat the child with this type of what could be considered as punishment to Maya??

  9. I’m so tired of the female defense attorney and dang whining!! It’s childish and not very becoming of an older woman or any woman for that matter! She should be ashamed of herself! I would not want to be her partner and have to hear whining if she doesn’t get her freaking way!!

  10. I have a son with multiple disabilities included CP, Seizure Disorder and intellectual disability. We had more stays at different hospitals than I like to remember. But ONE thing for SURE, I watched everything they did and what they gave him as far as medications. I asked a lot of questions and got upset many times. I will never forget the time "the team" were trying over and over and over to get a tube down my son's throat while he laid there putting up with it. He finally threw up at one point and I ran to him to turn his head so as not to let him swallow it. They told me to move away. It's devastating to say the least watching your child suffer. Maya's mother was a nurse and had a lot of experience. I can't imagine how desperate and lonely she felt. I think they didn't like her from the beginning and targeted her. Oh I also remember when my son had a spinal fusion and the nurses were changing the bandage on his back. I said please wash your hands well and I got a look from one of them because she didn't like to be told how to do her job. I hope we don't have any more hospital stays, it's heart wrenching when you can't help your child or give suggestions to the nurses or doctors.

  11. The female defense attorney could not be more unprofessional with her constant and overly dramatic signs of irritation and fatigue. I sympathize with anyone who has to live or work with her.
