In their opening statement Tuesday, the defense team for Gareth Pursehouse said after Dr. Amie Harwick called off their relationship in 2012, he was heartbroken, so when he saw her at an event in February 2020, he started to spiral. “The evidence will show that running into her at that event sent him into a thick fog of depression and made him feel that the only way he could get relief from that pain was to go and talk to her,” his defense attorney explained. Pursehouse is accused of stalking Dr. Harwick, strangling her, and throwing her off her third-floor balcony, ultimately killing her.

  1. He was depressed? He was asking her for “help?” I’ve seen some really horrible victim blaming before, but this takes the cake.

The only thing his attorney did was very likely give him a very good chance at an appeal for trash counsel.

  2. Wtf? Did the defense attorney seriously insinuate that it was Ammy's fault that this POS was obssessed with her, stalked her and killed her? The dude was mentally ill. He didn't need to talk to her, he needed psychiatric help, like pills and to be hospitilized. He was mentally ill. The woman hadn't seen him in 10 years and he immediately started harassing her. She had no business with her. She must have been so frightened to find herself in that situation, with no fault if her own. At this point, they were strangers. It would have been better to go with the insane defence, but if he wasn't psychotic, it doesn't count.

  3. It was a travesty they didn't allow in all the evidence of his TWO restraining orders, threatening her, assaulting her, breaking ito her apartment, trashing her things, all around 2011….she didn't "break up" with him back then, she ran for her life!

  4. I love the Obsession is a clinical disease defense … this is laughable. His need to control her, and be with her, after being with her and beating the $hit out of her his ab-solute-ly hilarious. Hope this child rots in jail for a long, long time.

  5. If Amie was hanging from the balcony trying to "escape" from him, why didn't she call out to her housemate (whose outer door was right by the patio)? The defense's "explanation" is absolutely ludicrous🙄

  6. Of course he intended to kill her. He had to kill her. She could not be alive in this world because if she was, he would never have peace in his stark, raving mad, psychotic mind and soul. His obsession had no bounds except her death.
