  1. At 12 years old I was cooking dinner, cleaning house and watching my baby brother. My mother was a single mother, working all day and going out at nights. I didn't have to be told or supervised. I was raised in the 60's and 70's. It seems like something happened with this last generation of kids. No respect or accountability. We didn't have to be told what not to do. It's common sense. I think Officer's should go to schools and discuss with kids what will happen if they do these things. As parents have to work, kids are unsupervised alot of times. There are parents who obviously allow them to run wild. But, most work. With high cost of sitters and daycare, people just don't have the money. There are great kids out there. But, not all are. There is more drugs, guns and crime than ever before. In my childhood I didn't know there was such a thing as drugs and kids killing people. Stop the madness now. Thank you to all our law enforcement men and women, who serve and protect. I hope this young girl has learned from these Officer's. She has her whole life to make a difference. Parents need to stop turning a blind eye to what their kids are doing. Js

  2. This is as bad as some prankster calling MAYDAY on marine band Channel 16.
The Coast Guard is mandated, by law, to respond.
Many thousdands of dollars are wasted with manpower, aircraft and ships deployed!
Worst part, these resources are NOT available for a real emergency!

  3. 8:18 The guy said if someone prank called 100 times, they could call the 101st time and the wolf shows up and they don't believe them. Doesn't 911 legally have to dispatch emergency personnel and they legally have to respond even if they're 99% sure it's a prank?

  4. Simply charge the parents for all the expenses the fake calls caused the town. Send the offenders to Juvenile detention centers, even for a month depending on how many calls they made. Put their pictures on the internet.

  5. Wonder if the parents' house insurance (liability insurance extension) would cover the loss? (Sort of like the cops' QI (qualified immunity) insurance, where punitive liability is passed to taxpayers, and eliminating any meaningful impact to the injurious party.)
Solution needed to best verify legitimacy of 911 calls (telecommunication company maybe provide texter's ID?)
An 11 year old child misused this platform, but the fact that there are no safeguards in place to prevent such abuse (and to protect her and her family from the ensuing devastation) warrants shared responsibility, in my humble (and unpopular, I'm sure) opinion.
Hopefully some community hours in some sort of 911 education will educate the child to understand gravity of her error, without ruining her future and allowing the transgression to define her.
