Greenville, South Carolina — On November 23, 2024, at approximately 2:18 a.m., the Greenville County Communication Center received a 911 call from an individual, threatening to do something stupid at 6 Kmart Plaza in Greenville. A short time later deputies arrived at the stores parking lot where they met with the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Daziana Lewis. Deputies continued to offer help to Lewis, when she pulls a knife from her pocket, lifts it in an aggressive manner and goes towards deputies on scene. The deputy drew his firearm and provided verbal commands, in an effort to deter additional harmful action from Lewis. A second Deputy on scene retrieves his taser as a less lethal option. The deputy fired the taser striking Lewis however it had no effect on her.
Verbal commands continued during the exchange and a beanbag shotgun, another less lethal option was retrieved from deputy’s vehicle, in further efforts to prevent Lewis from harming anyone. After Lewis’s first attempt to harm the deputies, additional dialogue was established, attempting to convince her to surrender peacefully. After a brief standoff and multiple unsuccessful negotiation attempts, Lewis raised her knife a second time and went towards deputies in an aggressive manner. At this point deputies fired, striking Lewis. Deputies on scene provided medical assistance to Lewis, until EMS arrived on scene and transported her to the hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. The knife was collected by agents of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and seized as evidence.

COP WATCH, let's talk about the placement of the officers body cams, and it's not an innocent mistake that the cams are placed on an area of the body that blocks the lens whenever the officer lifts his weapon. Additionally, they're also redacting footage, freezing frames, blurring, etc. It's just a matter of time when all we'll be seeing is blurred or still frames with redacted audio. This is how it starts people. Stay vigil.

That was one of the saddest videos I've seen, our system for dealing with people in crisis is so very broken. Not saying the cops did anything wrong but that girl obviously was begging for help and didn't really want to hurt anyone, she got want she wanted but it didn't have to go that way here

Condolences to her family. The officers kept distance and did their best to de-escalate the situation. They asked good questions and tried to establish rapport. I wish she did not think suicide by cop was the play.

One shot guys…back up if she doesnt fall…one more…. back up…Do not tell me that slow woman could get anywhere near you with that knife otherwise you shouldn't be a police officer. Non lethal even…back up non lethal back up. I respectfully acknowledge the considerable challenges that a police officer faces in making these decisions, but I always strive to understand how and what could have been done differently to avoid a tragic end. It's regrettable to see such a tragic incident, but it's a testament to the courage and perseverance of the police officers who must endure such a long wait. It's a great honor to be a part of such a noble cause. My deepest condolences to the deceased.
Hello fellow Americans! I have a question for you. First, let me say I watch this channel for a few years now and like many of you I've seen this situation many times before. I addressed this question once before on this channel, nobody answered me, I don't know why, probably because I wasn't subscribed… Can you please tell me why in a situation like this the police do not have/use some sort of net (thrown from a cannon) for the people with knives and try to save their lives? This girl was somebody's daughter, maybe sister, somebody for sure loved her… and it's heartbreaking to see this… and many other similar cases I've seen on this channel or other channels… I don't need a professional answer, but maybe there are some LEOs in the comment section. Thanks in advance and I wish everyone a healthy state-of-mind for all the years to come!
