I don't believe that he confessed to the cops at the scene of the crime. I highly doubt that and the fact that it was taken in as evidence is absurd to me. Where is the body cam footage of him confessing? Or at least the audio? If they can't prove it then it's useless. Especially when they have the equipment to do so.
If that was the case then why did they try to illicit a confession from Taylor? Asking if she was the one who stabbed him over and over again?
It just sounds to convenient for the prosecution. I really hope that wasn't considered admissible in court.

While it's completely possible to stab someone and not get blood on yourself, doing it while totally drunk is virtually impossible.
