Former school resource officer Scot Peterson is on trial for allegedly not following active shooter training during the Parkland school massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018. Peterson — dubbed “The Broward Coward” — has been criticized for his actions after surveillance video showed him remaining outside the high school while shots were fired inside killing 14 students and threes staff members. Peterson faces seven counts of felony child neglect, three counts of culpable negligence, and one count of perjury. He and his defense team believe the once “dedicated officer” did nothing wrong.

  1. That witness that started around the 2:00:00 mark is more of a coward than Scot was. He drove up to the coach & didn't even take 2 minutes to check to see if he was ok or not. He just backed the golf cart up & literally left school property. I can't believe they even called him as a witness. Him being here just proved that he was more or a useless pos coward than everyone else on that day.

  2. I was on the defense side initially. Now I’m on the prosecution. The problem is he didn’t try to do anything. Everyone is right, he is one guy but he didn’t attempt or try to do anything.

  3. The MD’s testimony in this proceeding is irrelevant. This was gone over and over again during the Cruz sentencing hearing. The jury should disregard the State’s attempt to gain sympathy and an emotional angle from jurors in this situation. Blame Cruz for the horror created that day as he is the one solely responsible. Peterson alone could not have stopped or altered the course of events that day no matter how it’s rationalized.

  4. wasn't the purpose of his job to do something other than hide? wasn't he trained to try to contain the situation? by contain, i mean, approach the unfolding circumstances and provide leadership to those at risk

  5. We have to acknowledge firstly, as a parent I EXPECT a OFFICER tasked to protect my child and all the other children while in school to do so. This trial is to acknowledge his failures and life lost due to him not upholding his oath. I hope to see the same thing with the Uvalde officers.

  6. I'm on the fence about this, on one hand I'm thinking about how much pain the families are in and they want justice for their children and want answers to why this happened and if it could have been prevented. But only other hand I don't think alot of cops or secretary guards are trained for a situation like this. But I think they need to be. I think especially if you are a secretary guard or officer at a school you should definitely be trained on detecting odd behavior and unfamiliar faces as well as how to disarm a shooter. That being said, I don't think this man should be help accountable for not playing hero. I feel terrible for the families and I feel bad for him, I'm sure he lives in his own prison in his head thinking he could have done something. But nobody really knows if he could have or if he could have made it worse. Nobody knows.

  7. I understand that the law regarding the votes for the death penalty have changed in Florida. It no longe requires unanimity but at least 8 votes for this penalty. If there ever was a mass murderer who should have gotten the death penalty, it was the Parkland shooter.
I think spending his life in prison will be just as miserable as he will probably spend many days in solitary. I think that the other prisoners have a strong opinion about child-murderers

  8. This school was no where near prepared for this event. Wanna blame somebody….blame the folks that put the policy and procedures in place at that time. It goes a little higher than Scot Peterson

  9. The Defense attorney keeps asking witnesses if they've spoken to his client since the shooting. It feels like the wrong angle to take. It's as if Peterson is complaining that nobody cares about his feefees. In other cases, witnesses talking to a defendant could be a bad thing. In this case, he's making it sound like it was their responsibility to talk to him and hear his excuses and then what…. refuse to testify against him? Makes no sense.

  10. I have a few questions: 1. This witness ( 2:06:35) got in his golf cart & drove as far away as possible because of the gunfire (cowardly?🤷‍♀️)… did he ever go towards any of the kids running & say "hop on!!" to get them to safety quicker? NOPE! and 2. Of ALL the witnesses so far specifically asked about their knowledge of & experience with guns & their sound by the prosecution… did ANY of them ask Scot Peterson if he had another weapon so THEY could help take down the shooter or atleast help protect the kids as they were moved to safety?? NOPE! Seems like everyone threw their hands up & said "It’s all on you, man… you might be a man with a pistol against a kid with a rifle & vest but ummmm… yea, we'll just wait over here." THIS TRIAL IS RIDICULOUS!! 😤😠😡🤬‼️

  11. Im not saying it would be easy to confront a shooter even when you are armed, but if you are a cop, that is what you signed up for. It's like a firefighter being too scared to go into a burning building to help people. Desperate times call for heroic actions.

  12. This is a bit ridiculous. Why hold him accountable for such a tragedy? It’s a bit tasteless and seems like he is nothing but the fall guy. I feel for the victims, their family’s and all impacted in this horrific event, including this man.

    Sad.

  13. Who's fault is it really that schoolkids were killed?
    – Could it be you? – Did you vote for a politician who refuses to vote to prohibit the sale of deadly weapons?
    – Could it you? – Did you vote for a politician that supports an economic system that puts money in the pockets of the already wealthy instead of taxing them to adequately fund public mental health services?
    – Either way, it's your fault. That's the real meaning of this show trial of a whipping-boy to get the local sheriff and the US government off the hook.
