North Salt Lake police have released dashboard camera video (above) showing the moment a Utah Transit Authority FrontRunner train crashed into a FedEx truck Saturday morning. According to UTA, a preliminary investigation shows the crossing gates were up and the flashing lights and bells that normally indicate a train is approaching were not active. “In the event of a power outage or lack of signal, crossing gates are programmed to default to the “down and active” position as a safety precaution.

Preliminary information indicates the gates were affected by the severe ice and snow conditions at the time and were in the default “down and active” position, as they are programmed. After an employee responded to the location, the gates moved to the up position. The agency has never had an accident like this before, and UTA is investigating why and how it happened to ensure it doesn’t occur again,” UTA wrote in a statement released Tuesday. There were no serious injuries in the accident.

  1. WOW i was sure at first that the first truck would get hit, but no. That train almost hit both trucks! Obviously FedEx needs to improve locomotive-encounters training!

  2. This is in Salt Lake City, Utah 🤣

You can clearly see the maintenance truck with his hazard lights on parked on the opposite side of the railroad. The guy probably was working on the box and had to manually turn the gaurds down when something happens like that. Those railroad flaggers get paid over $200/hr out here in Utah. And most of them in the summertime get a camp chair and umbrella and post up right there at the crossroad to manually close the guards 🤣 that guy probably got fired

  3. That’s why you look both ways when coming to a road or railroad crossing. Heck, most of the railroad crossings where I’m from only have a sign, no lights or anything.

  4. The cop stopped he seen what was going down nothing nobody could do . But with that weather and circumstances I would have looked for a train before crossing. But I'm old school what do I know.

  5. railroads have managed to get nearly all of the safety features removed around their tracks while increasing speed limits for trains and this is the result of it.

  6. Awe! Right here in good ol' Salt Lake City! Dumb SOB!! 😡 He didn't even look! 🙈 Damn good thing the Front Runner wasn't derailed!
