A Kentwood police officer who fatally shot a man in April will not face charges. In a 15-page release, Kent County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Forsyth says Officer Darrin Cline acted in defense of another officer. Officer Cline shot and killed Lamont Gulley shortly after arriving to a domestic call just before 9 p.m. Friday, April 8, at the Pheasant Ridge Apartments. Police say when they arrived on the scene, they noticed a large amount of blood through a window of the home. When officers made entry, they found Casey Kempker, 41, with severe injuries. The officers administered first-aid, but she died at the scene.

Kempker’s husband, Gulley, fled the home before officers arrived. He was seen by an officer at Edington Drive and Breton Road. Officers responded to the area and confronted him. Gulley had a knife in his possession and made threatening statements. After multiple attempts to take him into custody, he continued to resist. Forsyth says Officer Cline knew Gulley was dangerous. “He knows he stabbed somebody, he knows he fled the scene, he knows he’s told him numerous times to drop the knife and said just shoot me, so he’s acting irrational.” Gulley made threatening movements towards the officers and was shot by Officer Cline. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.

  1. I didn't see the need to involve the K-9. The dog was only being put in harm's way (being knifed). There were enough humans there with guns to control the situation.

  2. WAIT! that son of a bitch stabbed the dog?!?! They should have shot his scumbag ass again! That dogs a beast. Didn't even wimpper.. hope he's OK. He looks OK at the end of the video, thank God. Woof woof

  3. This is one rightful 'bad day' for the murderer. Tasered, shot, mauled by police dog and then dragged through wet snow. Great job officers!

  4. I love hearing that agonizing scream from that piece of shit scumbag criminal as he died, only because he tried to stab the poor doggy =3

  5. Ahhhh a video that starts with sound so I don't blow my ear drums out turning my volume up thinking the sound is low but really there's just a delay in sound and the turning on of their camera.

  6. Happy days. A few bullets and a trip the incinerator and the tax payer can forget all about this thug. Much better than wasting money giving it a trial, prison and then a lifetime of benefits. Just kill it as the violent murderous thug that it is. Society wins one for once.

  7. I like that dog…….the suspect, not so much……low IQ criminals are a pestilence upon society and ought to be eradicated like the rabid vermon that they choose to be.

  8. To my untrained eye it appears he was on the ground, making stabbing motions at the dog so they shot him to protect the dog? Which I think is a good reason to shoot him.

  9. I wouldn't be glorifying police officers to quickly with this video you have like 12 police officers versus one man with a knife and a dog. Yeah he tried to stab the dog but that shouldn't be the same as trying to defend a police officer because keep in mind a cop can hop your fence and shoot your animal whenever he feels like it at any time and any day and get away with it however if you attack his dog you go to prison for the remainder of your life. You can dress it up anyway you want but this is just another excuse for police officers to shoot and kill as many people as they possibly can.
