Modesto, California — The Modesto Police Department released footage of a July 4 shooting where an officer shot a man who charged an officer with a knife. The man was identified as 35-year-old Dylan Harvey. The Modesto Police Department says, around 10:20 p.m., officers responded to investigate a disturbance at a home along the 1100 block of Roselawn Drive. Officers talked with the Harvey’s father about what happened. They learn that Harvey had threatened his father and that he locked himself in his bedroom with knives.
Once inside the home, officers can be seen talking to Harvey through the door while loud fireworks can be heard outside. After convincing, Harvey to come out of the room and talk with officers in the dining room area and after a few back-and-forth conversations with people involved in the incident, things escalate when Harvey goes back to his room and that’s when he can be seen charging at officer Jacob Mertz with a knife. Officer Mertz shot Harvey twice after Harvey picked up a knife and made several stabbing motions at Mertz, cutting him once in the hand. Harvey remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his jaw and arm and has been charged with attempted murder of a police officer.

That dude was fucked off rip, right to the neck, poor guy
The groan of death. See ya bud.
Happy 4th of July Dillon💥 😂
This officer is 1 in a million. Super chill professional.
That was a jaw dropping shot.
This officer is one of the gems of the police force.
3:59 that gurgle got me a bit.
I got a feeling Dylan didn't make it choking on blood immediately…
That was really scary. Another unfortunate situation where the police officer had to respond to the threat to protect himself
GOOD MOVE DILLION…HAHAHAHA
I was not prepared to hear this man’s lungs filling up with blood that’s haunting
How de fuck is the officer so calm. What a legend.
“Bad Move†Dylan
Great job
Hire more officers
Fund them properly
Build more correction facilities
Fund them properly
Well that guy will forever remember every time he looks in the mirror how dumb it is to try and stab a cop. Almost feel bad bc man he wasn't having much fun anymore after taking a bullet to the mouth.
Still, I'm sure a social worker could have talked him down with their conflict de-escalation skills.
And if not, well, at least nothing of value would have been lost.
Come on Dylan, why? Simple rule, dont lunge or pick up a knife.
Poor Dylan, his brain is not giving him correct instructions.
Stanley steamer would definitely charge extra for that carpet
um, taking your psych meds with a 24 oz. is not a great idea…
This cope was super cool and professional. We need more like him
That's going to be an interesting mug shot.
– Hey Dylan, we need to put a toruniquet on you !
– Glug blug glub blub !!
How many times do we have to learn this lesson. If your son threatens you with a weapon and you call 911, they’re going to shoot him. Don’t call 911 on anyone who you don’t want to get shot.
That cop has all the chill.
Did he die
This turned out well…..the officer definitely kept his cool……….however, he mentioned that at one point the drelg reached out and touched his badge……..this type of action is tantamount to counting coup…..it emboldens the asshole by allowing him to think he on a level playing field……..the minute he touched me, he’d be minus one working finger and on the floor…….
That sucks Dylan, why would you do that ?
Sad man. Sad for Dylan and the officer. I couldn’t imagine being put in this kind of situation.
Holy hell this officer is the real and true definition of what a police officer is. Stays calm in a 0-100 situation.
Oh he dead
Think the one cop had to leave for his stomach
A lot of praise is offered up here for this super "calm" officer, is this supposed to serve as some type of example being set? everyone admired how calm this guy was we'll personally I do not admire anything about this, this man was in his room in the house where he lived and he was being just as calm and considerate as the cop was to him except up to the point the cop decided to keep pushing to get the man to leave his room, the man didn't want to leave his room he should have been left alone and given the chance to maintain where he wanted to be left alone but instead, this guy keeps pushing the issue to the point where he starts grabbing at the guy pulling and tugging at him until the guy responds defensively and then "calmly shoots the guy and everyone gives him praise. we'll see how long your praise holds out when this is happening to you, and it will, and you know it will! lots of luck in the hell with cops like this the hell with guns and everyone that supports this type of insanity. keep putting all your trust in your firearms but don't act surprised when they all fail on you at the worst possible time. God bless us all and good luck with all this calm praise we'll see how calm everyone is when the big show kicks off!
35yrs old? that's insane. dude must have lived a hard life. I thought he was at least in his 50's or 60's.
I think we need one more calm police officer comment.
No bueno for him
am i hearing a neck wound? all due respect to the officer in the video.
I'm no expert but I'd say dylans drowning by him
jesos those sounds of dying person. creepy.
Weird how once being shot you tend to come back to reality and really think straight once you’re slowly bleeding out.
We need to figure out how to clone this officer.
