Yesterday AWP began our search for 72-year-old Veteran John Zarkowski who was last seen on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 4:30 a.m. departing his residence — possibly without his shoes, phone, or wallet.
AWP was in Omaha at 11:45 p.m. getting ready to work a missing person case the next morning when they received a call from Jacob Grubbs from Chaos Divers (http://bit.ly/SubChaosDivers) after a friend of John’s family reached out asking for help from anyone to come in search of John who was believed to have driven his White 2018 Tahoe LTZ into the Missouri River.
We connected the next morning with the lead investigators, Tony Hemmer and Sgt. Doug Durkan from the CASS County Sheriff’s Department along with members of John’s family.
Around 5:30 p.m. we identified a target in question in the Missouri River outside of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and around 7:45 p.m. we confirmed we had found John’s Tahoe 22′ underwater.
Returning the next day, today (September 22, 2021), we struggled with one of our most difficult recoveries to date with the heavy current of the Missouri River.
Early afternoon the Tahoe crested the surface of the water at 12:59 p.m.
It was confirmed that John Zarkowski was inside.
We will have a full edit of our search and recovery efforts available in the next few weeks.
Hug the ones you love for you never know when it might be the last time you see them.
We are humbled by the opportunity all of you have given us to help in the search for answers as to what happened to John.
The AWP Movement would not be possible without your support, helping us travel the US offering our services for FREE to families searching for their lost loved ones… Thank you!

This just shows that when local LE are welcoming for extra help, work together with others, things get done and this is a big example of that because this man was found! If more LE would be more welcoming to these great men things would go more smoothly and things could get done
X
I like the stories behind it so how did John get in the river by mistake or did he just get fed up anyone know ?
Hi Meka
Absolutely right Josh
You learn more every time you search for someone. As someone who has watch all your video’s You see change every time you search.
Fantastic job guys👠Side note I bet Doug had the most nurturing parents. Ive heard him say "I love you man" on the phone w/Jarrod. He helped unzip his wetsuit & said "you're doing a great job" while Jarrod was down at the vehicle. Doug is so masculine and confident while being very caring . I love all of these qualities wrapped into one person.
I found your channel through TikTok and was mind blown when I saw this thumbnail with a 20 county plate in it. I would never expect it to be so close to home, my hometown is Omaha and I lived in Plattsmouth for roughly 15yrs of my life (until my grandparents passed). I had no idea you guys were around and that this man was missing (I dont follow the news too often), but your team is a blessing in what you do and you have brought closure to so many people. God bless you all and may you continue to perform this great duty unhindered.
I live in nebraska and remember this case but didn't realize that you were the one who found him. Thank you!!
Thank you so much of what you do… I stumbled upon your videos about 2 weeks ago. I am making great strides with binge-watching them while off work for a leg injury. It saddens me but it also brings me joy that you have found peace and comfort and closure for these families! Much love stay safe â¤ï¸
Seeing how long and hard such a well-trained team as Your team can search and nearly not find the cars. how nearly not find a car with your high-quality tech machines and trained use of, and the complete none visibility of the cars in the waters once diving once in water if off by a single foot if miss the magnet drop by a simple foot. It is no wonder an overwhelmed public service cannot match your effectiveness.
Carson say thank you lol. He seems a little stunned. Great that you are so appreciated and acknowledged.
Adventures with purpose folks and volunteers are underwater angels! Your purposeful mission is a righteous one and one that's worth all the support it may get! All! Continue your good works and get as many departed loved ones back home as possible! And kiddos for all you do! May you all and your families be protected and blessed!!!
All four of you are brilliant
Great work you guys. Selfless is the word that comes to me. You are selfless, well done!
May all four of them rest in God’s arm now
Hi everyone, from Scotland
Rewatched this video after the current video was released. Thank you.
Vietnam Vets are in their 70's and 80's now. They are the only American Soldiers who were NOT supported by the people during their service or when they came home. I think they are suffering more than those before or after. It was a deeply unpopular war. I was in High School and remember well the protests.
I know that over the past several decades the times have changed and they have been thank in recent years. But I feel the damage was done. Likely we will see many more suicides in the vietnam era vets.
I hope we have learned as a Nation, that we can Hate the War, but honor and respect those who are serving our Country. Argue with our votes against "warmongers" but love our people. Especially those putting their lives on the line because our Government required them to.
I'm glad that Yutan and the OFD river/water rescue teams accepted you with open arms. Their teams truly go above and beyond. A true search and rescue team learns by understanding there is more than just one technique.
You guys are young, but are doing great work. This man was a veteran… I am sure he felt similar emotions when he saw fighting. Make sure to take care of each other. Believe in your instincts… Good job.
Wish I had known you were in the area I would have came and volunteered my time. I am in the Council Bluffs area
Thank you to all of you for bringing home loved ones and cleaning up the enviroment for all of us! Your team is Awesome, Thank you for sharing
You guys do a wonderful thing for people!

So glad that Nebraska and her authorities treated you guys right. <3
Does anybody know of anyone that searches well's for missing people? My neighbor is supposed to be in a well after her boyfriend killed her, 17 years ago. 😢
U do a good job but slow your talk down have trouble understanding you
Blessings from Wood River Nebraska…thank you guys…
Thank you for solving another case, I get emotional watching these videos, Jared I hope you look after yours and the teams emotional welfare. I often see you and team members get emotional. It must take a lot of internal fortitude too continue to do this work. Make sure you look after yourselves, hopefully the reward of helping others is enough for you all, Kevin from down under.😊😊😊ðŸŒ
Please, Antoine who feels like suicide is best for everyone, watch the grief these families suffer, especially when there's no note or reason left as to why, and where you can be found! It ruins the life of entire families!
I promise you, any problem or lost relationship you feel you can't live through, YOU CAN! AND THERE ARE BETTER, HAPPIER, MORE JOYOUS DAYS AHEAD! Please reach out for help! You life matters!
I don't like how you are doing these videos anymore. We like to see you in the water when you first find the car and what happens after the sightings. What is going on? I don't want to waste my time just to hear you talk. I ended up fast forwarding until I realized you weren't going to show us anything at all.
Marlene Koue missing from Carlsbad CA in her van since 2012
Thank you to all of you! Also, thank you to your families for allowing you to make these sacrifices. It can not be easy to take this much time away from you guys, especially during a global pandemic. Sending everyone love and safety.
This new road trip started off hot, then it has turned into the cone of silence. Hope all is going well. Sure would like to hear an update how its going.
God bless AWP and all the people help find the missing. As a Nebraskan I thank you AWP for all you do.
I live in Norfolk Nebraska and I'm very Happy you guys helped a fellow Nebraska Family and brought them answers and closure I've been watching you guys for a while now and now that you've come to my state I'm honored that you did I hope to meet you guys one day and hopefully you guys can help the other Nebraska family that has the 23 year old case I thank you from the bottom of my heart as a son of a Vietnam veteran and a grandson of a WW2 veteran
I wish there were more people like you in this world. The fact that these family members have some answers and don't go on wondering what could have happened to their loved ones. This is not an easy task by any means. It speaks volumes to your hearts and characters. The amount of respect that you have in searching for these lost lives and with the police etc, again, just pure genuine character. I cry ever time but I'm very thankful I find your channel. Wishing you safety and happiness.
AWP is always so humble. It sounds like the whole town was right there with you and I always love that you acknowledge them, as well as not blaming those town officials that are reluctant to accept help. In the end your experience, equipment and devotion to what I see as your calling makes all the difference in these cases. Closure is a precious gift to give, even if it is not the closing you would like. Prayers to the friends and family of John. God bless AWP.
