Many workplaces are marked by a real tension between different types of workers: undocumented vs. citizens, union vs. non-union, and more. New York City’s Construction and General Building Laborers’ Union Local 79 has been working to overcome these divides by intentionally reaching out to undocumented and non-union workers in the construction trades. And the bosses are taking notice. Recorded in the spring of 2022 from the Local 79 headquarters in Manhattan, TRNN Editor-in-Chief Maximillian Alvarez conducts a Spanish-language interview with Alex Martinez, Walter Martinez, and Jose Rosas, who were all fired from their jobs at Alba Demolition after they were caught talking to Local 79 organizers on their break.

  1. 12:16 these poor guys got manipulated and played by a man named carlos, they had a job with a company for 6 years, and they got manipulated into a photo opp.

13:02 carols manipulates them, makes them feel special, takes a picture for them and they got fired for it

14:32 union rep introduces himself as a "translator" , did you offer them a job? Im sure thats not what you told them outside when they blew the rat up a rat and manipulated them into taking a picture and losing their job Im sure they promised them jobs, and benefits if they "joined the union", now they sit on some youtube channel unemployed, telling their sob story.

they got played for a photo opp, and the union offered them no work once they got fired, all they did was offer a "translator" to sit with them. sad

  2. It is no surprise that discrimination or colorism exists in the construction industry, but what’s more impactful is the unfair and double standard use of licensing laws in the industry, in many southwestern states, which are Latino majority, contractors must have a license that has high annual costs, insurances, and membership requirements such as background checks, or high school diplomas that are known to exclude Latinos the most, yet in a majority of white states like Maine Tennessee or Vermont, construction businesses do not need a license therefore there are less barriers to entry that are excluding Latino businesses and opportunity like in these licensed states especially California, also with the license harder to get, there are less licensed contractors to provide jobs and therefore it creates the scarcity that mainly impacts Latino communities. If there was more of a uniform system of laws and regulations in the construction industry, like the Obama administration called for in 2015, there would be more opportunities and less instances of these types of harassments or hostile working conditions from happening

  3. Undocumented workers ARE the enemy. They come in here and trash the country and get payed pennies while they take OUR jobs! They are the enemy. Most of these immigrants are part of the mexican mafia. Good luck inviting them all in, are you even minutely aware of what’s going on over the border??

  4. Muchas gracias por esto señores. Lastima como se manejan las cosas en muchas empresas hoy en día. Solo piensan en la ganancia. Se les va lo humano.

  5. This show the on going exploration of labour. First it was Native Americans, who took the jobs of striker, then black Americans who took the jods of striker, next it the Latinos who took the jobs of strikers.
Worker solidarity and unionised workers would stop their race games.
Only time I've been badly injured on the job have been on non union site. With no union coverage.
In Australia the lowest pay rate per hour is near to $60 per hour on building sites you get paid more per floor over 15 . Sick and holiday pay 6 weeks holidays per year retirement fund ( Constution union super is the highest earning and it's controlled like all other so mafia rats.csnt.steal it. Long service pay after ten years etc etc that's what strong unions can achieve.
On the other hand quicky Marts are
also have exploration of refugee via cash in hand but with no paper work if injured the employer simple say these folks never work there. I tried to unionize these folks but fear of being fired. Again it's illegal to do that and bog fine for employers but.fear and cultural subservience mentality rules "" He's a good man he gave me this job and hay it's only ten dollars an hour but he makes it up with more hours😁"
120 hours a week!!!!!! No holidays no benefits at all if he paid award wages it would be $25.80 hr for eight hour $37.50 for next three hrs and $51.60 there after way more then he was paid. But he told his boss who told h he had other begging for work so of he didn't like it leave no worries..

  6. Unions are for unions not for the working people , all they do is collect dues and if you have a problem they will tell you to file a grievance ,they will not even protest with you, for some people when they go on strike they only get $50.00
    a week

  7. Unions put private companies out of business. I had a bunch of employees who thought they could unionize my 6 man operation. I don't have to go along with it. I went on vacation. I had no work. Told them they could go look for another job. When I got back I hired a new crew. None of them ever signed up at any union hall.

  10. That is the purpose of our two-party system. One elitist claimed, "I don't care who gets elected if I can pick the candidates."

  11. This is great stuff. Thank you guys for bringing this story to light. Really underrated content – appreciate your work.

  12. People who think unions are automatically great have never worked under union and been blackballed after always paying their dues…🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

  13. unionisation is now unavoidable, it terrifies the companies, we're going to have to fight tooth and nail

  14. Treating them just like they treated black people. Now they do the jobs black people refuse to do. That why Democrats want them here. Now they want equal rights? Imagine that!!!!! I knew it was coming soon or later
