Rattling the Bars: Man wrongfully imprisoned for 26 years speaks out – Everything Law and Order Blog

After being wrongfully incarcerated at the age of 19, Lacino Hamilton fought to free himself through journalism, and by educating himself and his fellow prisoners.

Lacino Hamilton is a writer, thinker, and activist who was incarcerated for 26 years thanks to a wrongful conviction, and was exonerated in September 2020. For more information about his case, see “Ring of Snitches: How Detroit Police Slapped False Murder Convictions on Young Black Men.” After being sent to prison, he spent four of his first six years in solitary confinement. It was there that he began to read, think critically and distinguish between expressing a desire to change and demonstrating the ability to achieve it.

  1. Bro! About that education thing, its probably not wise to use an example of imperialist terrorism (Iraq) to refute institutional oppression and slavery "at home". Oh and the system they installed is more of what put you away for over two decades. "Spreading Democracy"/"Red Scare" means killing the working class, suppressing any left-wing political activities via any means necessary, normally a bullet or a black bag, and installing right-wing neoliberal/Nazi capitalists throughout the entire government…just sayin', I would use a completely different argument when talking about abolishing the police, especially to a fascist police state country like Murica. Want em gone? Treat them for what they really are, slave plantations whose sole purpose is to imprison, fleece, groom, and outright murder the poor. FACT not opinion, not perspective…EMPIRICAL, HISTORICAL, FOUNDATIONAL, FACT.

  2. Thank you for this guys
As a white woman it’s easy to get an impression
Although it does really upset me how bias systems are health education prison etc.
It’s not only good to hear the point of view from people who have actually lived the situation it’s actually really important
There’s not much I can do to change things of course other than point people in the direction of good men like yourselves
I wish you and all your colleagues the very best

  3. I'd like to get your perspective on a very unknown travesty, alive and well throughout the prison system, known as the INMATE FUND. Its very likely to me that your exposure to the inner workings of the penal system, your talks w/ inmates very familiar w/ the improprieties within the prison system would have informed you if this. I'd like to open up communication to discuss what I know about this crooked FUND. PS CONGRATULATIONS FOR YOUR RELEASE.DJ

  4. COMPASSION INTERFERES WITH PROSECUTION" PROSECUTORS ARE NOT COMPASSIONATE , IF THEY WERE THEIR WOULD BE NO PROSECUTION. EVERY STATE THAT DOES THIS TO A PERSON IS IN DEPT TO THEM.

  5. I'm very happy that the man was released after all this time. My only question is why bring race into it. Why couldn't it be simply. Be bad cops, bad judge and bad call. The gentleman is wearing a black power t shirt. Could you imagine a white man wearing a white power t shirt. This older man is racist as hell. Judging by his own words. I don't agree with the contractor jail system. The system is messed up for whites, blacks and all races. The system doesn't see color. They only see the money they make from fines and jailing people.

  6. Hunter all over the internet hitting the Rawks free pass,
    Meanwhile ,
Popcorn is probably doing 20 ta life for having a half burnt roach in his Ashtray .

  7. As a white man sitting here listening. I'm so glad this man here is out it's effing sad knowing the our whole system is broken for every culture from religion to race and what ever else. And by this man speaking maybe it will give others to speak up and all of us pull together and say hey enough is enough. If you want an example watch what happened this past weekend for the 9/11 whole bunch of diverse Truth seekers came together and spoke at different parts through out NY it was amazing #NYC91122

  8. Only in America where everyone is guilty until proven innocent I should know San Antonio Texas tried that BS charge stuff on me luckily I got it dismissed

  9. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, 🚩🚩🚩except as a punishment for crime 🚩🚩🚩 HERE'S UR SIGN! Funny how they used identity politics to drive that one home too. This is not a new thing, if only people would wake up and see the real game.

  11. Thank you for this amazing interview, because it hints at how many people in prison shouldn't be there at all, and highlights the importance of education in our lives.

  12. The USA judicial system is a large and significant part of the tool white America use to suppress and keep the black man down the USA.

  13. White America is extremely afraid of the black man avenging themselves for all the wickednes white America has done them. My behalf is, the state is complicit in all the wickednes, harm and suffering black America is experiencing today.

  14. I like when the interviewer says it it is a “criminal injustice system“. It is a capitalist competitive system that invites cheating.

  15. POLICE SYSTEM ONLY HAVE PUNISHMENT NO JUSTICE. US MILITARY UTILIZED FOR PEOPLE ABROAD AND US POLICE UTILISED FOR AMERICANS.

  16. Oh man, this is hard to take in. Just listening a few minutes at a time. Such an important topic, but heartbreaking.

  17. Excellent interview, most indeed. Being incarcerated when innocent, much worse for many years, now that is insane and incompetent governance. I wish Lacino well and for him to not be stigmatized after his wrongful conviction, imprisonment. I read at least one time during the 2000s about people who were wrongfully convicted remaining socially stigmatized after having been finally found to have been innocent all along, even when their innocence was publicly announced. The article or articles said that the social reputations of these victims was destroyed, badly damaged anyway. Etc.

  18. This 'framing' system is very well known and it is part of the corruption of police, prosecutors and judges in many places that victimize poor people, born guilty of poverty, and worse for afro-americans,guilty because they are also suspicious because they are black.Courts need to be auditored by lawyers of civil rights. There are not guarantees with a corrupt justice system and each trial must be watched.

  19. Sad that this had to be you walk in life but proud you came along the journey wealthier in wisdom, and understanding to decipher the game played of how its stacked so its so hard to ever win because of the cheating and deception being ingrained that that's just a part of what its all about. stay strong. (BE BLESSED) – a person would have to be blind not to see that prisons is a type of slavery and for profit prisons make it advantageous NOT to let you out.

  20. I'm a Black Man!! Reading the comments and even listening to these noble gentlemen….Where's the condemnation of this racist country? This country/"people" don't like us. I'll even go further, they hate us! They will always do us dirty in the most heinous ways!!! Until this reality is recognized….No change!

  21. Totally and utterly wrong and has to change just like the medical system fueled a opioid crises the justice system is a for profit complex too and destroying lives the same way!! God help them and their recovery to living back in the open world again

  22. I am Semitic (part white, and Middle Eastern) and Jewish. On my mother's side 4th generation, or my father's 3rd generation (the generations that we have lived here. Each generation fought racism and religious hatred, sometimes with our lives. I am in my mid 60's and I would like to meet you. I have listened to your entire talk. I agree with most of what you said.I do believe certain people belong in prison although dead Charlie Manson belonged in prison. Socialism does not work mainly because some people are lazy and or greedy. I believe you have more to teach me than I can teach you. I like your use of mentors, I learned from the mentors that chose me and the mentors I chose (they finally taught me or I would have knocked on their door everyday)You can find me if you want to work together. I am on Facebook but I really have no idea how it works. Good luck in the future, and am truly sorry you spent 26 years inside. I really glad I wasn’t on that jury. Science helps even the odds, but were does the money come from. If every defendant had a court appointed attorney it would level the field a bit more. I here waiting on you

  23. Very important when innocent prisoners have been incarcerated, they must keep their nose clean, yes sir no sir.just say under your breath fk u screw. Whilst in prison get your head in books, use the prison system,to better yourself.they will never be released by abusing the staff, some of those are rats.we have one prisoner in uk that has been in jail for 50 years he has killed no one,his behaviour in prison the time has been added on,he is not type of prisoner that will wipe no screw ass.he wouldn’t think twice to kicking the screws ass. Only one way out work your way out, never let them win.

  24. It looks from where I’m looking, every prisoner that have come out of prison as innocent men.had been framed by cop’s,every one I have seen to date, are all black,Mexican it looks like racism cuts deep in the officers veins.it must be painful for officer’s to move around,as they drag their belly on a rough roads, lower than a snake.

  25. 💪🐻❤️Thank God he still has youth. I can't! I can't live with the fact we have private prisons and elected Joe Biden! This is so upsetting

  26. At the four minute mark I'm speculating that the kkkops will have broken laws and won't even be charged with that crime. Let's see how wrong I got it…
And if that is Huey and/or Bobby beyond the interviewer's left shoulder, I feel greater respect.

  27. Power to all people, victims of this viscous neo-fascist empire of the capitalist system of mass incarceration designed to hold down the poor, Black, Brown, and other minorities of the worker's class. Your voices are very much, no matter how big or small, part of the struggle to end their rule over the masses. The struggle grows stronger every day because of the voices of those who will not be silenced! No prison bars can hold down those voices, ever! The real criminals are the ones that make the laws and use their security forces, police, to protect their capitalist system that oppresses and suppresses the people.

  28. Biden just put 100,000 cops on the streets, sealing the public's fate for a generation. Biden is using this tactic as a government jobs plan, so 50 people have to get locked up in order to hire one government employee.
