The WHITE ESTABLISHMENT rebels against COMMUNITY POLICING – Everything Law and Order Blog

Every Thursday at 9:00 p.m. EST on The Real News Network, journalists Stephen Janis and Taya Graham premier a new episode of the acclaimed Police Accountability Report, a show that investigates police corruption around the U.S., as well as the grassroots movement to hold police accountable. This week, in lieu of a new episode of PAR, we have a special interview with Janis and Graham about their new full-length documentary, “The Friendliest Town,” which tells the story of Kelvin Sewell, the first African-American police chief of Pocomoke City, MD. When Sewell, a former Baltimore city homicide investigator and narcotics officer, instituted radical changes to Pocomoke City’s policing system, focusing on community policing over aggressive law enforcement, the results were stunning. Then, the local white establishment fought back.

  1. Does fabricate a sense of order. Cop should only be able to respond to calls. This so-called "proactive" police work does nothing but cause problems. They're not detectives yet all they ever say is, "we're conducting an investigation." How, you don't know how to?

  2. I recommend that you change your headline that says WHITE COMMUNITY REBELS AGAINST COMMUNITY POLICING. I am not convinced that the problem is the WHITE community in general that is the problem, although the individuals who are causing the
Robles are white. Many people who are WHITE support the Police Chief. I am not convinced that all of the WHITE people in Pokomoke are the problem, although it is clear that the people who are causing the problem are white and racists. But I am not convinced that all of the WHITE people in Pokomoke are racists.

  3. In my view, this African American Police Chief's success scared the white establishment really. Just like cops retaliate to public who speak out against them, white establishments often retaliate to minorities' successes.

  4. Because policing is not about serving and protecting.. it’s about keeping black, brown and poor people in their place.. maintaining white supremacy and the social order! So essentially that chief was not “doing his job”!

  5. I have a request: P lease activate subtitles for this program; they are currently unavailable. I am hard of hearing, and I need the subtitles to make sense of it all. ( Yes, I need hearing aids, and I'm working on that.)

  6. At one time there were " policemen " at some point they became " Law Enforcement Officers " and you became " guilty until proven inocent "

  7. HES NOT A ROAD PIRATE AND NOT EXTORTING PEOPLE BY WRITING TICKETS TO MAKE THE PEOPLE PAY FINES OR PUT PEOPLE IN JAIL AND GET PAID PER CRIMINAL .

  8. The man should have got a medal . It's sad that no one can see why he needs to be put back on the job . This is exactly what's wrong with policing cops need to know the public to be part of the community.
