Eric Brandt: Controversial cop watcher gets results – Everything Law and Order Blog

Known for his role in the Occupy Denver movement and his controversial, even profane, manner of exercising his First Amendment rights, Eric Brandt has been arrested roughly 200 times while protesting police brutality and advocating for reform. But he’s also quietly racked up key victories in court.

Brandt is a well-known, albeit controversial, figure in the cop watching community and beyond. His tactics may be abrasive, but have they led to real police reform? Or, as others have claimed, is he just a gadfly whose antics are more provocative than substantive? These are the questions we explore in depth on this week’s PAR: We examine Brandt’s recent court victories in light of the debate over what constitutes real progress towards making law enforcement responsive to the community. Please join journalists Taya Graham and Stephen Janis for this important episode of the Police Accountability Report! And please make sure to leave your questions and comments below!

  1. Very interesting way in trying to justify the actions of a fool. Brandt should be having a mental assessment to determine if he is sane enough to be in public.

  2. I don't think having cops be required to sit through victim impact statements would be a positive thing.

Lots of them get off on the misery they cause people. Many of them would love getting paid to sit and listen to their victims describe how the actions of the police harmed them.

  3. I can't believe people actually laud a bunch of idiotic stunts by a guy who's basically a professional asshole.

  4. The courts put Eric Brandt in jail because he insisted they follow the constitution. He is an American Hero.

  5. I'm done with you guys. You promote lies as much if not more than the cops. When someone lunges at you with a knife–you have the right to send him to see Jesus to protect you life and property. Cops & Judges are bad and sometimes criminals. But you cannot let the criminals control the court or society. Everyone has rules to follow and when you spread lies–like a lying cop, I'm done with you!

  6. THEY ARE ALL TYRANNICAL CRIMINALS UNTIL THEY PROVE DIFFERENT! THEY LOST THEIR GOOD REPUTATION FOR ANY OF THESE PIGS, JUDGES, DA'S, FBI, CIA ANY POLICING OR AUTHORITY YEARS AGO! SO NOW WE TREAT THEM LIKE THEY TREAT US, GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN OTHER!!! PEOPLE PLEASE HELP GET ALL OR ANY OF THESE TYRANNICAL CRIMINAL FELONS WITH BADGES AND OFF THE STREETS BY RECORDING, ASKING FOR INVESTIGATIONS AND FIRING OF THESE CRIMINALS WITH BADGES AND AGAIN HELP SUPPORT REMOVING THEIR QUALIFIED IMMUNITY! DONT YOU THINK WE SHOULD OUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS TO GET RID OF THESE TYRANNICAL CRIMINALS IN OUR STATE AND GOVERNMENT? THAT IS WAS IT WAS MADE FOR, CORRECT? SO CAN WE INVOKE THAT RIGHT AND JAILS THESE CRIMINALS?
