Thank you for this priceless piece of buried history and especially that introduction. As a former Chicagoan, I too was never taught this part of history. I did not learn of it until I moved to Mexico, where it is commemorated by thousands of workers marching down the main boulevard of Mexico City and where Los Mártires de Chicago are remembered.
Just imagine my shock at learning it all started in Chicago. That was one of the big moments in my life that opened my eyes and inspired me to dig more into history and pay more attention to current politics.
Truly, Americans have been kept ignorant of many things. Neolibralism has done that to many Mexicans too over the past 35 years. The youth now cares little about history. Mexico finally has a president who is changing that. Hopefully, the powers that be let him.
FASCINATING history we should all know but so few do.
