I think I remember this differently. As an educator, who teaches Social Sciences with Politics and United States Government being two of the many subjects that fall under Social Sciences, my job is to research everything before completing my lesson plans. I remember a conversation about republicans putting a bill on President Obama's desk to be signed thinking and hoping that he wouldn't read it thoroughly or research it.
Well, Obama is a lawyer and lawyers are programmed and trained to read everything thoroughly, more than once if necessary. President Obama was an overtime president who was known for bringing work back to his family quarters and working to midnight most nights. Personally, I don't think he was well versed on the pipelines situation and big oil companies.
However, he was knowledgeable about climate change/global warming, and the EPA. Nevertheless, he did his homework and called in the experts. Meanwhile, he sent back the Bill stating that there was not enough information on how it would affect clean air and residents. After his research and meeting with the experts, he ended up vetoing that Bill and Republicans were angry.

The lefts attack on pipelines is such a shame. Pipelines transmits fuel efficiently, with little environmental impact and will help reduce energy costs. They would be better server by pushing for better standards of pipeline safety than simply causing unnecessary delays.
