It Could Take 2,800 Years to Clean Alberta’s Old Oil and Gas Wells – Everything Law and Order Blog

To speed the clean up process, regulators would have to mandate a stricter schedule—but that could cost tens of billions of dollars, much of it coming from taxpayers, says Regan Boychuk, oil sands expert and Reclaim Alberta co-founder

  1. Alberta is a land destroyers paradise. They do not care buy another quad or 4×4 and let the environment die. No one ever said we were smart.

  2. This story is all bullshit people. Research the history of this area going back a hundred years. These b's reporter's are misinforming the facts. But the sheep will believe this b's.

  3. Tar sands oil was seeping into lakes and rivers for centuries – you can dig a foot down in many places to find it – so removing it is cleaning up the environment. Also it doesn’t take more than 3-5 years for oil to break down – not hundreds of years – the only time it doesn’t is when it is forced to “sink” underwater like what they did in the Gulf with the use of corexit.

  4. Add to this the complete disregard for health and well being of First Nations down stream from the tar sands and what you have is a grandiose display of piggery .

  5. please put his website or info in description box. i dont mind donating to his group. or even volunteer with them.
my heart breaks for my province 🙁

  6. 🤔🤮😱🔴🤮😱🔴….And that is why …. President Trump did not sign the Paris Climate Summit Accord because the $33 million dollar contract had faults in langauge instructions on how the envisioned money should be claimed for environmental damage, reasons, and/or protections🌱🌲🌱🌲🌱🌲🌱🌲🌱 because money was not stipulated, NO DEAL WITH AMERICA ! Where Exxon was an Executive in the Administration and if $33 million dollars were placed in the "Green & Clean" Cookie jar; all n all any corporation could say I have a natural fossil dirty division, I have 2 oil rigs in the gulf, I have a "clean & green" division; I have fines gross amount in excess of 3 million, so I get to put my hand in the "Cookie jar:? because we do have AFTERALL A"CLEAN N GREEN DIVISION, instead of my corporation being 🤔accountable for Pollution Catastrophic Damage ; Industrial waste makers should be Exempt from Paris Climate Accord Monies🤔
    🔴🤮😱🔴🤮😱🔴🤮😱🔴

  8. as Albertan tax payer im mad.
these ass hole didnt share their profits yet they expect us to clean up their shit.

  9. Where is extinction rebellion, according to them the world will be dead in 12years so I guess why bother cleaning up?.

  10. The only way to clean up this mess is through our political process. I have voted for the Liberals and NDP in the past. Do not trust the Conservatives. They are for the Corporations only. I support the Carbon Tax. 95% of the pollution is caused by industry. The Carbon Tax is being rebated back to the citizens. Conservatives do not tell you that. For the first time this coming election I am going to vote for the GREEN Party. Close down the Alberta Tar Sands. Oil is killing us all and it's choking our lands and oceans.

  11. If the tangible and intangible costs of the waste that fossil fuel and most manufacturing corps (even McDonald's) make would have to be paid at time of sale, they would all be operating at a loss. It is simple transfer of wealth from tax payer to corps. When will we wake to this?

  12. The Alberta oil fields should be nationalized to finance the clean up, unless the responsible oil companies take concrete steps to clean up their mess immediately.

  13. So much for Canada being able to stop these bastards. This is something that happens in the USA in Canada.

  14. Here's a better idea, I think why not just expropiat those companies from the bourgeoisie that own them? It's obvious that regulation on the private sector DOESN'T WORK.

  15. overthrow the corrupt, catastrophically greedy polluting earth trashing oil industry and leave them in the dustbin of histories' worth environmental criminals

  16. If only we could find some company that was willing to…ohhh…maybe clean those sands and find a way to get rid of that oil…which has been seeping into those sands for millions of years…and which isn't stopping any time soon. Oh well…I'm sure the environmentalists will figure something out, since they want it all shut down, so that oil can keep seeping into the rivers.

  17. No one's cleaning it up, it's fantasy! Might as well add to the cleanup costs "bring back species made extinct by contribution to climate change", yeah of course we're gonna do that! Why even pretend it's not permanent damage?

  18. Great – this is like making dinner and not doing the dishes for a month or two. Just admit you don’t give a f*k.

  19. I don't understand why so called conservatives want to pay industry from the public budgets while reducing the flow of cash into the public budgets which forces the government to loan more money at interest. Then these same so called conservatives claim their opposition is unable to balance the budget. At least there's 5 political parties here, so there's more people who can clearly see the hypocrites of the political theatre.

  20. What a joke that is 1.5 times the time since Jesus walked the streets of the Roman empire. The reality is no human enterprise has lasted that long so they are writing off Alberta as a wasteland.
