Why doesn't Venezuela switch to the Euro? A simple question. In fact, why doesn't Venezuela ship crude to Europe?
It's obvious to me that these heavy handed sanctions kill innocent Venezuelan citizens. All this to bring down a Leftist government that the U.S./Western European corporate/governments hates and wants deposed with those favoring American undue influence and raping of it's natural resources. The U.S./Western European main stream media follows along with these U.S. tactics as does a dog obeys it's master.
Your article mentioned nothing about the current oil glut which has resulted in lower prices. I would suspect forcing Venezuelan oil off the market would help boost both oil prices and the share price of related of US related oil interests, like those held by the the Koch brothers (who created Mike Pence).
Venezuela needs to develop other industries and focus mainly on domestic supplies. Fossil fuel usage will dwindle as greener tech and infrastructure is developed. They should jump on the bandwagon now and try to emulate Costa Rica.

Venezuela needs to develop ways to turn it's oil resources into plastics and other oil based products keeping more profits in Venezuela. EVs are starting to become main stream and are outperforming ICE vehicles in most ways this will only make demand fall for fuel.

The whole point of these sanctions, which btw. are supported by the Democratic Party, is to bring ANY left leaning government to its knees. This is the entire point of neoliberal economics. And it is not isolated to Venezuela, it is happening world wide, under the banner of bringing 'freedom and democracy' to the world. The last thing global capital wants is democracy of any kind.
