Jacksonville, Florida — On December 27, 2023, at 2:00 a.m., JSO Patrol officers responded to a business burglary in the 4500 block of Lenox Avenue. The complainant, one of Pinette’s family members, reported that Pinette had broken into the business at approximately 10:45 p.m. the prior evening, December 26, 2023. The complainant stated that Pinette took a revolver from an office desk drawer. Per surveillance footage reviewed by the complainant, Pinette then loaded this revolver, and shot at the business’s security camera system, before fleeing the scene in his car. Approximately an hour later, Pinette drove to a closed business located in the 5600 block of Roosevelt Boulevard. Pinette shot out the front glass of the business’s doors using the revolver he had taken earlier that evening. When Pinette could not manually open the business’s doors, he backed his car through them. Pinette entered the business, stole several items, returned to his car, and fled the scene. Patrol officers responded to this business burglary at 11:49 p.m. on December 26, 2023. However, Pinette had already fled the scene before they arrived.

On December 27, 2023, at 8:18 a.m., another complainant, also one of Pinette’s family members, reported that Pinette had shot at her car located in the 6300 block of Commodore Drive. Patrol officers responded to the scene and documented the complainant’s driver’s side window with sustained damage. On December 27, 2023, at 2:52 p.m., another complainant, one of Pinette’s neighbors, reported that Pinette had pointed a gun at him in the 5200 block of Timuquana Road. This complainant told police that Pinette had pointed a gun at him while he was gardening. As he pointed the gun at him, Pinette verbally threatened him, saying, “You picked the wrong day to do some gardening.” Pinette then retreated into his apartment. In response, multiple JSO Patrol units arrived on scene, setting up a perimeter around the apartment building in which Pinette was located. Using a public address system, JSO officers instructed Pinette to come outside his apartment for about 40 minutes. Rather than comply with police directives, Pinette fired multiple times at the officers from inside the apartment.

Officers R. C. Samples and K. C. Jarell, who were amongst the officers on the perimeter, returned fire. As a precaution, officers requested JFRD respond. A rescue vehicle was in stage nearby the scene. After the initial exchange of gunfire, Pinette barricaded himself inside his apartment. In response to Pinette’s barricading himself, additional officers arrived on scene at 5:08 p.m. and assumed tactical control of the police perimeter. Officers continued instructing Pinette to exit from his apartment, unarmed, over the public address system for nearly an hour. At 5:52 p.m., Pinette exited from the front door of his apartment, armed with a revolver in one hand and a knife in the other. In response, officer J. D. Price fired a single shot, hitting Pinette. Pinette fell to the ground. With his gun and knife still within arms reach, Pinette continued to move around on the ground. Once Pinette had stopped moving and officers could safely approach him, it was determined that Pinette had died because of his gunshot wound. Crime scene detectives responded to the scene and collected the revolver and the knife with which Pinette had been armed. Both these weapons were located near where he fell to the ground.

  1. The funny part is, he drove his car into the door, and then backed the car up and parked it. You may as well just leave the car in the store!
