  1. The SUV may have been from a state where their pedestrian laws reflect actual life laws… if it’s bigger and faster it has the right of way… CA pedestrian laws kill people

  2. The school is West High and if the student was crossing south and the lady had a green light, the student had the right of way. The student's back would have been to to the driver so he may not have seen her coming. My kids went to this school and it's very obvious when someone is at the crosswalk, my guess is this woman was either heavily medicated or too old to be driving. The intersection is Torrance Boulevard and Victor Street. Glad the student will be ok.

  3. I witnessed this accident. I was the car behind this elderly woman making the left hand turn. The student walked into the crosswalk looking down at his phone with earbuds in his ears. The elderly lady made a very slow left hand turn and I thought because the young man was walking directly in front of her, literally walking towards her, she would see him, but she did not. There is no way she was paying attention at this point. As I honked to alert her, it was too late, as she was already running him over. I have no idea how she didn't see him. I heard it was a rental car so she probably wasn't used to driving it. Possibly looking at her GPS on her phone as she was holding it as she exited the car. The truth is, neither of them were paying attention. If one of them were, this unfortunate accident could have been avoided. Maybe he could have jumped out of the way perhaps. She didn't realize it until both wheels ran over him. Thankfully I heard he is going to be ok. This is a complete miracle after seeing what I saw. A nurse happened to also winess the accident so fortunately she tended to him while we called 911. Thank you to Torrance PD and first responders who arrived within one minute of the accident.

  4. This is serious business. Thanks for covering it. Not excusing the driver or tge pedestrian but sometimes the pillars between the glass get in the way of seeing pedestrians. Sometimes pedestrians walk when they’re not supposed to like if this lady had a green left turn arrow, the walk light wouldn’t be on. Not sure how this incident happened, I just know anything goes in Seattle. I see it multiple times a day and there’s no enforcement. Especially at night with people driving with no headlights.

  5. I don't know if this is the case here but there comes a time when someone in the family has to make the difficult decision to take the keys away from an elderly loved one.
