El Paso, Texas — On March 5, 2024, at approximately 1:08 a.m., an officer with the El Paso Police Department approached a vehicle parked at a carwash on the 5800 block of Donaphin Drive. The officer made contact with a male subject identified as 30-year-old Micheal Estrada who was seated in the driver seat of the vehicle. Estrada can be heard identifying himself, while telling the officer he is frustrated and having car trouble. Estrada told the patrol officer he was living in his car after the officer asked him for an ID. The officer asks Estrada several times to exit the vehicle, telling him to calm down.

Estrada became uncooperative with the officer and stated he had a gun on his person. The officer continued to tell Estrada to show his hands to which the suspect did not comply. He continued making threats toward the officer. The video then shows the officer firing his weapon several times. The officer called reported shots were fired, and called for first unit to help and for emergency medical services. Estrada was pronounced deceased at the scene. Whether Estrada actually had a handgun, which is not visible in the video, has not been disclosed as it is part of ongoing investigations into the shooting.

  2. the thing that always annoys me with these videos is cops holding their weapon with one hand and/or holding it sideways………two hands, gun upright and concentrate on the target

  3. As a retired leo, it drives me crazy seeing these guys without mics for their radios. They end up having try and use it when they need to be able to quickly free up a hand and there’s a higher potential to lose it. I’m glad he’s ok, but it’s just dumb.

  4. The suspect told the officer that he picked the wrong day to come to work and if he wanted to make it home he should leave the suspect alone.
Looks like the suspect picked the wrong day to confront police but at least he made it home since he lives out of his car.

  5. This randomly popped up on my feed. I decided to do some research on Michael and I see that he was arrested back in 2017 for threatening an elementary school. His mother apologized for his behavior and said he struggled with depression and substance abuse. In this video, he says he is homeless and didn’t seem phased by the gun pointing at him. Was he suicidal? I saw his obituary and it included his interests and hobbies. I wish things would have been different for him and put the good things in his life to good use. Unfortunately he was so troubled. I’m proud of the officer for maintaining his composure. He was so calm and respectful. He had to protect himself and he went home that night!

  6. The people trying to defend this guy are actually insane. "There's no evidence that he had a gun" isn't the point. If you tell an officer you have a gun and then start saying stuff like, "Do you want to go home tonight?" Is a clear sign of aggression and singlehandedly the dumbest thing you can say when a cop is standing behind you with a gun aimed at your head. Even if he was bluffing, the officer had no idea of knowing since the guy made it a point to conceal his other hand and progressively getting more confrontational. The officer isn't going to take that chance, none of them would. Whether it was him or another cop, the outcome would've been the same.
