Blount County, Tennessee — On June 11, 2024, Deputies with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check and possible domestic at a residence on Jacob Springs Boulevard in Rockford. When Deputy Corbin Smith, 25, and Deputy Edward Walker, 28, arrived on the scene at 3:19 p.m., the offender walked out the garage door. Deputies briefly lost sight of him before he reappeared and engaged them with gunfire.

The deputies sought cover behind their vehicles. Deputy Walker’s body camera video shows him being shot in the leg about four minutes after he arrived at the scene. Deputy Walker asks Deputy Smith to grab a tourniquet for him from his uniform, then hands Smith his rifle so he can apply it to his leg. About three minutes later, Smith is shot in the leg. He’s seen on his own body camera video taking an additional tourniquet from Walker’s uniform and applying it to his own leg. Several minutes after being shot Deputy Walker and Deputy Smith were told by other responding deputies they could escape the scene.

Deputies were able to rescue Deputy Smith and Deputy Walker while taking gunfire from the suspect. Responding deputies returned gunfire at the offender, and he retreated inside the residence. Additional units, including the Sheriff’s Office SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics Team), as well as multiple law enforcement agencies from the area, responded to assist. After receiving information that the suspect threatened to shoot an elderly female victim inside the home, members of the Sheriff’s SWAT team entered the residence and took the suspect, 59-year-old Ronald Reed Millsaps, into custody shortly after 5:00 p.m. without incident.

The woman who was inside the residence was not injured, but she was transported by AMR Ambulance Service to an area hospital for observation. After the shooting, Millsaps fired between 100 and 300 shots during the attack, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Millsaps, who appeared in court for the first time on Monday afternoon, has been charged with two counts of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated domestic assault, reckless endangerment and aggravated assault. He’s being held in jail in lieu of more than $2 million bond.

  2. Two officers under fire & shot where the hell is the nearest police station or are they all having a day off they could have been killed very poor backup time wise

  3. Never seen a Police department take this long to get there after two cops are literally shot and alone in a gun fight. The fuck that would never happen with Sacramento Police or Rancho Cordova Police. You would’ve been dead quick. Leave their department they suck

  4. Sorry but when you only have a car for cover you have to return fire to try and get him to stop shooting. Yea it's risky but doing nothing is what got them shot.

  5. This was very strange. Why were they so calm and stayed in a spot they knew they were being shot from? Did they even shoot at the guy 1 time who shot at them 100+ times? the officer with the rifle should have at least sent some lead back the way of the shooter and maybe he would have thought twice about shooting at them like literal sitting ducks. Why didn't they use the radio more to stress how dangerous the situation they were in was and how many times they were being shot at like they were in a literal warzone?

  6. Peagler is a fucking beast. Maybe carelessly but he got those 2 officers out while completely risking his life not knowing where the gunfire was coming from.

  7. Good Lord. I woulda been cussing and pushing these other officers off. How the hell do you keep these injured men waiting that long + still make them walk. He literally yelled “We need a vehicle”

  8. EIGHT MINUTES WITHOUT BACKUP!! Homeowner was using those driveway ricochets pretty well. Just imagine if a few neighbors were working in concert with one another. It would be just like Raylan Givens up in the holler talking with Mr. Limehouse at gunpoint. Limehouse's fellas all have guns trained on Raylan, when Limehouse says: "Now you all know what to do if Raylan shoots me, right?" They certainly do, since they have a thriving pig farm and all the accessories!

  9. Career LE and VET here… My advice to all you young officers on here… If your department doesn't offer you tactical training to survive these incidents then either get yourself individual professional training, get yourself a job with a department that offers training, or change careers. This is not something you can learn on the job, as you well see in this video. I'm glad these guys survived but it was not skill that allowed their survival it was pure luck that they were up against an old man with no training just like them. They caused many of their own problems in this incident because of lack of training. Not to put them down, but they simply had no training and they used all of it in this video, NONE. They surrendered to their fate by hiding behind concealment and never used any tactics to get out of the direct line of fire, nor even supressed his fire so they could maneuver to true cover. So, again, do yourself and your family a favor and get trained on your own if your department doesn't offer it or move on so you can stay alive.

  10. where the hell was there backup?????????????????????????????????????????????? In Florida no joke, 10 squads show up in 1 minute for a speeding ticket!!! these poor men!!!!!!!!

  11. They report about being fired at with the same tone of voice, as if they were just writing a ticket.
    I'd guess combat vets.

  12. Thank you for not censoring, also, those first two deputies are incredible, keeping calm, not randomly popping off shots, composed etc. Commendable
