Parkland Judge Reacts to Georgia School Shooting: ‘100% Sociopath’ – Everything Law and Order Blog

The mother of accused school shooter Colt Gray, 14, claims she contacted Apalachee High School administrators the morning of the shooting to warn them of an “extreme emergency.” Just thirty minutes later, Gray opened fire, killing two students and two teachers. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber discusses how this investigation and future trial will be handled with former Florida judge Elizabeth Scherer, who oversaw the penalty phase of the Parkland school shooter’s trial.

  1. To be frank, I’m not caring for this guest. Not a week into the incident and she’s already stepped out of her field and diagnosed a child with a serious mental illness and essentially, threw Colt away. Yes, she’s probably seen a few, but it’s more biased than I’d care for a judge to contain.

  2. At one time I was a deeply troubled kid and it got to the point to where I probably would’ve hurt someone, I dropped out and got a GED. I was an alcoholic and a drug addict at 16 years old, but in the back of my mind I always had this little bit of hope that told me if you do something really bad or hurt someone or yourself you’re never gonna see if things get better or become worth it one day. I’m 30 and 3 years sober and yes things did get better it was worth it, I still sometimes have to remind myself to keep going and see things get even better. Somebody just needs to tell these kids that.

  3. It’s truly heartbreaking, but what measures are being put in place to prevent such incidents from happening in the future? It seems that children require more supervision than we often realize, whether in schools, universities, or other environments. Parents, teachers, and law enforcement need to be more actively involved because many of these kids simply aren’t mature enough to handle certain responsibilities.

There should be a complete prohibition on dangerous weapons for young people. It’s also alarming that we allow teens to drive at 16—something that should be reconsidered. Laws related to young teens and the privileges they are granted, like driving and access to potentially harmful items, need to be reviewed and amended to ensure their safety. By all accounts, they are not ready for these responsibilities, but that’s just my opinion. Stay safe!

  4. Miler family point really gun to me did go jail with he's gun to open was doing faver to me I ask him way ? U didn't take him to jail that was real gun shooting in air poor to me I was shaking sceard

  5. This kid told them he wanted things to go quiet. He was struggling.
What kind of parent buys his underage kid an automatic rifle??? Not only a flagged troubled kid but why would you buy a healthy stable kid an AR????
NO KID should own a weapon like that!😠

  6. Makes me sick schools can't put metal detection in but they will spend ridiculous amounts of money on metal detection in court houses and government buildings but not schools. Smh
    And airports

  7. I worked at a neighboring school in the same county and it always infuriated me that we shared our resource officer with the school next door. Many times I had to de escalate situations without an SRO because the officer was at the other school. I would say we regularly do active shooter training with our students & that definitely is why you see that more deaths and injuries were prevented here. Question what would have been a probable cause for this child to have been charged with terroistic threats? He confessed to having a discord account, his father and him confessed to him having issues at several schools, the father admitted he trained his son to use a gun and have access to guns, the kids body language was off when questioned by the cops and he mentioned wanting to be a philosopher. All the signs were there. What more did the police need?

  8. I think the mother’s phone call needs to be revisited. Someone blew her off. They knew who this kid was and they knew the FBI had issued a warning. This could have been prevented. Telling the mother that she was “incorrect” just sounds blatantly dismissive and uncalled for. Looking in a backpack, even the wrong one, is lame. Somebody was more interested in not being seen as overreacting than they were about protecting the students. I think there’s a lot of CYA going on.

  9. If his father gave him a gun AFTER the FBI alert and the local law enforcement visit he deserves to be charged and get the maximum sentence just like the kid. LOTS of kids are bullied. Lots of kids have mental health issues, probably because they are subjected to active shooter drills and have no idea if they will return home from school on any given day, but they don't go around murdering people. Over 40 shootings in the past year and we are only 9 months in. We are willing to build an entire industry around school shootings from technology to training but aren't willing, as a nation, to address the root cause. It's nauseating.

  10. I remember when my older brothers got BB and pellet guns for Christmas. We used to shoot at empty tin cans set up as a target. But WHY WAS A 14 year with issues gifted an AR, with full access???? Life in prison for both the shooter and dad. Disgraceful

  11. We need to do better. At a greater scale we need to stop this divide and put our nation's future first, our children first. Something is amiss when we blame an individual and ignore all the signs that clearly spelled out, "HELP ME! STOP ME!" This tragedy could have been avoided. AGAIN.

  12. I'm a gun owner of 56 years. Raised two Sons. We hunt together and go to the range a few times a year. All firearms are locked up. One hand gun and one long gun are both in 5 finger rapid release safes. My Brother was diagnosed with schizophrenia back in the early 2000s. My family all seven of us sat down with him and had a long talk. Long story short. My oldest Brother took all his guns and locked them up in his home. After about five years when Doctors gave us the green light that he was out of the woods we gave back his guns. He is doing really well today. No more voices.

  13. So, you are saying that the Dad had mental illness issue? I'm not sure how the new law would protect a minor from getting a gun from an adult. I would assume there are already laws in place that a minor cannot buy a gun. But that hasn't stopped gun violence. I'm baffled on how this law will help.

  14. True or false: Dead is dead.
Is a person “more dead”, if they were killed by a nutjob wielding an “AR-15 style” rifle than they would be if they were hit head on by a drunk driver? Is an inanimate object to blame or is the individual responsible?
