Thirty-one-year-old Deobra Redden is accused of attempted murder, battery, extortion by threat, intimidating a public officer, and willful disregard for the safety of others after he attacked District Judge Mary Kay Holthus in January 2024 during a hearing where Holthus was sentencing him for an unrelated attempted battery charge. Redden’s defense attorneys argued that he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, which allegedly caused him to lunge at the judge after he failed to take his medication. Judge Holthus said Redden slammed her head against the wall before he grabbed her head and ripped some of her hair out.

  1. Took 6 men to control that animal. I don’t believe the prosecutor is sick, I think she is so scared. She is so scared she can’t breathe or speak. He flew over the bench and attacked a judge. She is the prosecutor! Be understanding, this can’t be easy!

  2. Are we supposed to ask everyone if they've taken their meds today or is it just certain people that wear a sign on their head.

  3. I get chest pains listening to this prosecutor, there is something really wrong with her breathing / delivery. It chips away from the content. I get totally distracted thinking she is personally affected by this case to the point that she really can’t function fully. Why has nobody given her feedback on her delivery before she entered this case???

  4. If this was thyroid medication then he absolutely should have been provided with the medication upon release. It should have been placed in his hand so all he had to do was take it. This prescription was nonsense. People get released with thyroid medication on hand. I know someone who was released with 60 days worth and a prescription. Hypothyroidism is extremely dangerous and so is hyperthyroidism but I have witnessed hypothyroidism without medication first hand and the result is psychosis.

  5. Wouldn't being off the medication that kept you from the frame of mind that could easily include intent to kill make you more likely to have the intent to kill? The purpose of the medication was to keep him out of that frame of mind. Being without it means he easily could have walked into that court room with the intent to kill if it did not go his way and 3.7 seconds means he did not even have to think twice about his intent to kill. There was no internal struggle. He had made up his mind already and that's why there was no delay. He heard the cuffs and said now or never. If he had even thought about it otherwise he would have paused and they would have had time to cuff him. However he should not have been allowed to walk in off the street with no psychiatric evaluation as to his frame of mind and really never should have been released to begin with since the medication is this critical. But when he could not get it there was a time period during that 60 days in the beginning where he knew it was vital and he did not do whatever it took to get the medication. He could have reached out to so many people that would have made sure he got it. He did the minimum to get it because he felt ok. People do not realize how important meds are when they feel ok and they do not notice when they are slipping back but the people around them do and they have a duty to make sure they reach out and say hey he can't get his meds. He is ok now but what about later. I am sure there were conditions on his release but it really should have never happened. It's like people that don't take a whole course of antibiotics because they feel better and then end up with a worse infection because it comes back stronger. Many people failed in what led up to a horrible situation but he cannot be solely blamed for that so any intent present was due to him being failed by the people who were supposed to give him appointments and prescribe medication.

  6. We have him on the phone saying he intended to kill the judge, what more evidence does the defence lawyer require, than his own defendants own words following the attack. For me he's guilty as charged and should be sentenced for attempted murder no less.

  7. He was so incompetent and not able to understand what was going on that he was able to beg the judge to let him off with probation and understood things weren’t going his own way so he went on a rampage.

  8. Our local court channel was removed by YouTube because someone was interrupting the live Zoom feed with extremely inappropriate videos.

  9. He looks like a vegetable today but when the DA stood next to him he eyeballed hee up and down. He’s in there. If I was hee I wouldn’t stand next to him no matter how much he’s chained up. Did competency court give him a drug test too as he was definitely on something that day if it took six guys to apprehend him.

  10. Leave the poor girl alone, shes out if breath for reasons you will never know. Anxiety from being on a televised trial, first case, medication for thyriod, anxiety he's going to jump her, speach impediment, you'll never know. Shes trying to do a public service and to take out the trash and lock him up. Leave her be
