Organ Thieves: Inside the Dark World of Organ Trafficking | Organ Trade Documentary – Everything Law and Order Blog

A gritty and unflinching descent into the shadowy world of black-market organ trafficking: the street-level brokers, the rogue surgeons, the impoverished men and women who are willing to sacrifice a slice of their own bodies for a quick payday, and the desperate patients who face the agonizing choice of obeying the law or saving their lives.

Every year, tens of thousands of human organ transplants are performed around the globe. Most transplanted kidneys come from cadavers or relatives of the patient. But demand for this organ far exceeds the supply. So thousands are bought and sold on a flourishing black market. With unprecedented access to all the players – the buyers, sellers, surgeons and brokers – the film explores the legal, moral and ethical issues involved in this life-and-death drama.

This is not a black-and-white story of exploitation, but rather, a nuanced and complex tale of survival for both the buyers and sellers. This is a world where the villains often save lives, while all to often, a helpless medical establishment watches people die.

This documentary was produced by Syndicado and directed by Ric Esther Bienstock. It was first released in 2013.

  1. Personally, if it were my father who was dying, I would GLADLY, IN A FREAKING NEW YORK MINUTE, GIVE HIM MY KIDNEY!!!!!!! WTF???? That man is the reason why that daughter is here today, so if he needs her kidney, she should give it. PERIOD. Sorry, but that's just the way I feel. To me, it's selfish to not at least see if you're a good match. That's your PARENT. I mean, F*CK! WHERE IS YOUR HEART?? YOUR COMPASSION???? My dad has died, & if there's anything that I could've done to keep him here longer, I'd have done it without question. Not helping your family by offering your kidney is just f*cking selfish as hell.

  2. 100,000 is a lot to pay for the donor to only receive 2k… but I guess there are so many people involved. I wonder how much the doctor got paid. Very interesting… I don't think I would ever donate a kidney if there was no financial gain, but I can also see a flood of poor people doing it if it was legal.

  3. Excellent investigative report & great documentary information for donors & recipients to see the nightmare behind saving lives.
It's sad that poverty & the bureaucratic drama makes the operation more unnecessarly complicated & difficult than it needs to be.

  4. Dont get me wrong but so many authorities interfere, finding it unacceptable and illegal for “vulnerable” people to donate. To be specific, they find it “unacceptable” that donors are paid so little. But in most countries like in europe or the united states, citizens can choose; if they die or they get permission to use their bodies for patients who have been waiting for years for a donor. Why doesn't the government want to come up with some kind of concession for the people who know they are dying pay a nice compensation to such people so they can leave something nice for their family. For something belongs something, you cannot depend only on a 'good deed'. In addition, I think this frames the surgeons, I see them as freelancers who can take a job for people who pay them. Every profession has professional secrecy. The same is if I am a driver and someone wants to hire me for a good amount of money to drive their vehicle and afterwards I find out that the vehicle has no insurance so I am not allowed to drive it. you never know beforehand. The surgeons also dont know if it is allowed or not, they only get to know is that 2 people willing to help each other and they need assistance immediately like that is their duty.

  5. Very well made documentary. I felt very uncomfortable watching this. However, it was very interesting and informative. It also reminded me to take care of my body.

  6. She's sad i would do it as it's saving my own fathers life who had me and gave me everything i needed for life. Boy she needs to go to church and be counseled!! How SAD

  7. I see nothing wrong with this practice, I initially thought organs were taken against a persons consent, after watching this the people who willingly sold a kidney did better financially than where they were previously. People sell blood, eggs to help others. This should be legal, but if it were it would become so expensive.

  8. Terrible way to sell one's organ . The need is insurmountable in the Philippines alone from what these poor people are saying. Traffickers/recipient need to pay a million for it. I mean, like it or not traffickers thrive as long as there are people willing to pay to extend their lives.

  9. You all go to church. We are homeless, addicts, prison, gangs, military etc. That is trafficking. Law is the worst knowledge of this and africans they know, hindus, europeans know, news personnel they know. So the ones that see in others due to religion and being beaten as kids or lots of other things thats where it starts then your traficked in the open as a toy for arrest or prison to break you from your culture so others can ride you and extort you. Mental hospitals are bad for this. Hospitals your watched. Just like the stories in the bible. Instead of the government and religion playing law this way to kill others, why dont they make a bread of donor humans for stuff like this. I mean they do but its not out in the open in a way for people to be ok with it that way, because they say its wrong, um dumbasses i would rather give a kidney to save a life than to be a study for drugs, or disease, or a study for voodoo, or a work of faith to be a puppet.

  10. There people in Poor country who kill healthy people to sell their organs . This breaks my heart. Many people have been killed in Uganda because those qho are in this business are untouchable. The so called the first son-in-law to Museveni called Rwabogo. He needs to be investigated……..

  11. The mercy of the wicked is cruel…Proverbs The Lord will take care of your needs, you don't have to figure it out on your own. God would never expect you to harm your self physically in order to make money, He created you. And He blesses us with freedom of choice. Our choices can affect other people. This is the most ugly misuse of financial power Ive ever considered. Altho the sex trade is just as bad, especially when childern are the victims. Id like to ask a rich person if they would sell a body part. Money is the root of all kinds of injurious things…Holy Bible. People who believe in eternity have no problem dying if it's their time

  12. For those who give their Organs willingly its a different thing but feel sorry for those in aftica who goes in Hospitals to get treatment and they remove them unknowngly. Abd the gorverment officials gets money for free .and a poor person has to die and their families in pain
