Last week the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the trial court’s ruling and confirmed that we indeed have a First Amendment right to livestream police officers, including as an occupant of a vehicle during a traffic stop.

  1. The LEOs are in public, just a the president or another politician. They live streamed the attempted assassination of Trump, but no officers were crying about being filmed in the execution of their duties. Yeah, the activity was ALWAYS protected under the First Amendment the 4th Circuit of Appeals was CYA, as filming LEOs (livestream or recording) is a protected activity.

Know your rights, cause Freedom is scary and sometimes it comes at a price.

  2. Let's say you were a bad actor and wanted the cops hurt. It doesn't take a live stream to locate you. There are SEVERAL other non voice, non video methods to send your location and give notice to roll up. It's bothing but a ploy for cops to be able to grab your phone and desytroy evidence.
But…there are also other methods to live upload vids.

  3. Traffic stops are inherently dangerous to the citizens because the cops even though if they don't have authority they say they do they charge you and they ask questions later the assault you and they ask questions later the kidnap you and put you in handcuffs and deal with it later

  4. Why did the police officer reach inside the car then after the person moved his phone out of his way why did his grab his seatbelt and try to choke him with it isn't that assault when the car died if it wasn't on Facebook live I guess

  5. Pretty unprofessional to walk up to somebody and say what you on Facebook live cuz that's my first point I have to make the second point that I have to make is the police don't have a right to tell you you can't be on Facebook live it doesn't exactly say where you are unless the person that is video taping actually says that and officer safety give me a break if you wanted to be safe you wouldn't illegally pull somebody over

  6. When are the judges and prosecutors going to tell these cops to stop acting like they get to make up the law as they go. STOP LYING TO THE CITIZENS YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO PROTECT AND SERVE!!! We all know you’re lying. We all know you’re making crap up. You just look weak and stupid

  7. Don't see how it would be any different than being on a group GPS app like Life360 and texting "Cops stopped me" or calling someone and saying "I'm on Main st by State ave getting pulled over". I feel like this cow is already out of the barn, and highlights the real reason cops hate it.

  8. My sincere thanks to that citizen – and his lawyer! We need thousands upon thousands more of you. We could be making serious change if thousand upon thousands more lawsuits are being filed. I don’t know why we don’t have more – seems like it would be rather lucrative for the civil rights lawyers with all of the nomstop serious rights violations going on in every single state.

  9. Uhhh… journalists live broadcast every day – with no limitations on what activity in public can be broadcast. Pretty simple.
Remember when there was an attempt to stop the reporting of speed traps on Waze… that failed as I recall.

  10. Get a camera in your car! I’d you think these cops are prejudice then y’all need a camera on at all times! Officers safety?,,, of a camera? Huh?! They need a new profession if they’re afraid of a camera

  11. Now need a win when law enforcement officers put their hands on you unlawful you got to right to defend yourself without been charged for assault since the officers can assault us without charges we should have the same rights

  12. Wonder why nobody in court mentioned that a LIVE phone call is exactly the same as LIVE video – IF their real concern is that OTHERS can be called-in to attack the police. Police have never made a big deal out of anybody being on a LIVE phone call. I think they just really don't like being on video at all.
