Former ballerina Ashley Benefield is accused of killing her husband, Douglas Benefield, in September 2020. The Florida couple were in the middle of a heated custody battle when Ashley shot Doug. Prosecutors believe Ashley murdered Doug so she could gain full custody of their young daughter, however, Ashley claims she shot Doug in self-defense after months of alleged abuse. The medical examiner does not believe Doug was facing Ashley when she fired off four rounds at him.

Yes she is a survivor of that instance no it is not okay for that to EVER happen . However she showed she was trying to work on their relationship and told him that she wanted to get back together . She never once had to reply to him ANYTIME she had texted him .

When playing paintball, I took a side shot at my friend. Then about an hour later I took side shots at a couple of kids…( I'm old so 19 and 23) All of them immediately lifted their legs to meet their arm. I asked them "why didn't you run" all implied that it was an involuntary reaction to shield their sides where they'd been hit.
I know it's not the same but I wonder if he did the same thing thinking he may talk her down. He seems to have been the type of person who'd continue giving her another chance to do the right thing..

Like they were friendly up til the very last one. I understand that at one point doug got weird via text when she was on vaycay but its odd that he hasnt sent anything equivalent to that since or even in days leading up

Yeah those texts look like she’s abused and scared… she’s not living with him ! You can’t egg them on, use them, and then say you’re dead! She waited til after he loaded her up to kill him..smh. One last hoorah?

Everyone chill with the past behavior..it can’t be admitted because he’s dead. If it’s let in then he should be able to testify to the accuracy of it. He’s dead. Not allowed in.rules are rules but she admitted he never hit her but convenient when she shot him to death. None of those things proves he attacked her. Self defense is not I just wanna get rid of someone.
Listening to the texts between Ashley and Doug prior to the murder, it's clear Doug was bending over backwards to give Ashley space while trying to placate her. And she's playing him the entire time.

I've watched over 100 trials. I have never heard an attorney object to the judge reading the right to testify instructions. I need to find out how many criminal trials the defense attorney has tried. He has been a lawyer for a long time. But if he's a criminal lawyer, I'm so confused.

Thx for covering this DV murder defense trial in the county this USVet was a Psych Nurse in for >3 decades. You helped me just learn Oklahoma women report that at least 49.1% of them claim to also be victims of domestic violence & abuse. I found that shocking as I attempt to understand the West & Midwest from my Florida viewpoint.😮
