Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin goes to trial next week on charges of involuntary manslaughter, after a gun he was holding on the set of the film “Rust” fired a live bullet, killing cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021. Although this is solid character evidence it doesn’t dismiss the fact that Alec acted carelessly when handling a weapon that he failed to ensure was safe and clear.
I don’t know enough about the case to speak to the armorer’s responsibility but there would need to be a solid documented paper trail of the chain of custody of the weapon and the status of the weapon when the care, custody, and control of the weapon changed hands.
If the armorer did everything to ensure a cleared and safe weapon changed hands how do we know that the chain of custody wasn’t broken and the status of the weapon changed undocumented.
