The Case Against Alec Baldwin: Actor Faces Trial for Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting – Everything Law and Order Blog

More than two years after a gun held by actor Alec Baldwin went off on the New Mexico set of the film “Rust,” Baldwin is preparing for his manslaughter trial. The bullet from Baldwin’s gun hit the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and director, Joel Souza. Hutchins did not survive. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film set’s armorer, was recently found guilty of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison. Law&Crime’s Jesse Weber does a deep dive into police body camera video and interrogations from the day of the shooting, plus what we learned from Gutierrez-Reed’s trial and its possible impact on Baldwin.

  1. Mutiny on set leading to dismissals of unionized pros. Accidental firearms discharges, live rounds given to two of the stars (Alec Baldwin, Jensen Ackles), the director shot, the star/producer charged and still in court years later? When things that don't usually go wrong somehow do what does that tell us?

As for the idea of blanks being a danger unto themselves all you need to do is google info about the death of actor "Jon-Erik Hexum" to get an explanation.

  2. Both Hannah and Alec, in my opinion, are guilty because both of their actions (or inactions) contributed to Halyna's death. If ONE of them had acted more responsibly, the incident wouldn't have occurred. It took the negligence of both of them to get where we are today. Ironically, that fact also makes it easier for each of them to put the blame on the other, but they were BOTH doing something they weren't supposed to. I feel Hannah is slightly more culpable because of her role, but Alec should absolutely be held responsible for some degree of negligent homicide.

  3. For a long time i felt this was an accident and no one should be charged, but now i am not so sure it wasn't negligence because it seems like there is reasonable expectation that Baldwin was aware a person should not point a gun of any kind at anyone on a movie set.
That changes things for me when it comes to negligence, even though i believe it was an accident and he didn't intend to harm anyone.

  4. It’s crazy to me how both of them are so flippant and concerned with themselves. If I found out I killed someone, especially someone whose safety was my responsibility and I considered a “friend,” I wouldn’t be able to be so calm.

  5. Am I wrong? But isn’t Alec Baldwin one of the head producers for this movie? Who overseas pretty much everything? One of the top decision makers? Also he was holding the firearm when it killed this poor woman, having a real firearm on a movie set should never be allowed, knowing that the firearm is real it should’ve been inspected by a professional and himself, firearm safety is so important, Alec Baldwin did not want to murder anyone but he is liable he was holding the firearm that killed this poor innocent woman end of story!!!

  6. Alec must have had his finger on the trigger the entire time so if he cocks it with his finger on the trigger it will go off.

He was not lying, the defense should stick with the narrative that Alec is not a arms specialist but an actor and it’s solely the armorers fault.

I would assume he will be vindicated but law in America is so corrupt that I don’t know what to expect.

  7. Hollywood does not make its own laws. If you are camping and your friend hands you a gun, says it has no bullets, and you point it at someone and shoot, you are lawfully responsible for that death, if one occurs. All seasoned actors will say, and are saying, that they check every gun first before firing it. That is their legal and moral responsibility. Alec Baldwin hired this reckless person and he continued to witness her shocking behavior. But since he was behaving the same, and never checking his gun, along with his other unbelievable behavior, it didn't matter to him… Until he shot Halyna and he was scrambling for a scapegoat. The two of them working together was a bloodbath waiting to happen. They are both responsible and neither one has shown an ounce of remorse. A 14 month sentence? What a cruel joke for the family. They should each get 15 years.
