  1. Poor kid… I don't know how I would react neither… Pointing a firearm at someone holding a garbage clamp is pretty insane and it could result in serious bodily harm of the person unarmed. This is an awful interaction and the officer that was pointing that gun was placing everyone at harm, including the people inside the building, for no reason…
May God have mercy on him…

  2. Officer Smiley is a racist, he profiled the Student based on his appearance and location. Not one individual notified the police of anyone trespassing or causing a disturbance. I hope Smiley was received of duty and then fired. His commands are not lawful, he is abusing his powers under the color of law (1983). I am glad that the student won his case in court.

It’s actions like Smiley’s that get officers killed in the line of duty. Abuse of power is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

  3. Yet again another citizen held hostage by the police for doing the job he was paid to do! But the police officers are you still afraid no one on the forest will approach him just ask questions! And talk to him normally, they all want to escalate every situation they come across!

  4. He gave Mr. Atkinson's a C+ ….I gave him an A+, being racially profiled is not fun trust me i know. The C+ is saying i never been in that situation, but i was I'd do it thus way….damn.

  5. Credit to the other cops, immediately upon arrival they began de-escalation techniques while also finding out that he was a resident of that dorm.

The first cop who approached him is an embarrassment to law enforcement.

  6. I disagree at the C+ rating. Unless you are black, you have NO CLUE how many times similar situations have happened to him. His attitude was most probably based on prior misjudgments. Remember, a white woman walked by with a dog and she was not even noticed…and never would have been.

  7. Omfg. The cop needs to go inside the building and see if the RA or someone else can verify that the kid belonged there. He keeps saying that the kid is obstructing an investigation…go investigate!!! Wtaf is wrong with him?

  8. Officer Smiley didn't stay true to his own name and did not honor of his trade…. on this day and how many more might he not have acted too supicious ? I understand Cops want to be safe but this atudent did nothing wrong… sadly the officer escalated the situation a lot instead to deescalate it…. Sad and wrong to that to the student… lam glad that young man got compensation…
