Lil Woody’s Ex-Lawyer Breaks Silence on Young Thug Contempt Controversy – Everything Law and Order Blog

Attorney Kayla Bumpus represented Kenneth “Lil’ Woody” Copeland for one day during an ex parte meeting in Judge Ural Glanville’s chambers. The meeting occurred after Copeland invoked his 5th Amendment privilege on the stand during the RICO trial of Jeffrey Williams, the rapper known as Young Thug. Judge Glanville implied that Bumpus may have told Williams’ attorney, Brian Steel, about the meeting and violated attorney-client privilege. Glanville held Steel in contempt when he refused to disclose his source. Law&Crime’s Angenette Levy talks with Kayla Bumpus about the allegation and the possibility she and others could be held in contempt in this episode of Crime Fix — a daily show covering the biggest stories in crime.

  1. This is the thing: none of the defendants was notified that there was an ex parte meeting. The idea that the defendants didn’t need to be there because the nature of the meeting was civil contempt for Lil Woody is nonsense. He is a star witness and the meeting was about his testimony. The defendants should have at least been notified.

  2. "Kind of was just in the moment" is not a valid excuse. That's a court of law they have procedures and protocols in place that are well known so nothing outside of a courthouse crime happens just " in the moment". For all of the security and everything involved for that meeting to have taken place, people knew about it ahead of time but they chose not to involve the defense under a weak guise that it's an ex parte meeting and if your manipulating(coercing) witnesses by telling the witness that he's going to go to jail if he doesn't testify in that meeting, that is NOT ex parte. it's also taking away copelands fifth amendment right. Sounds like he didn't completely agree to what they're trying to get him to do on the stand, sounds like there's something funky with his immunity agreement. SCOTUS needs to get involved if this judge doesn't refuse. Criminal contempt is intended for behaviors "upholding" the proceeding, weaponizong criminal contempt because you got caught breaking the law yourself is in itself CORRUPTION.

  3. This is either the most ignorant or the most manipulative judge I've ever seen or heard of in my entire life! I can't believe he is that openly biased, as well as that openly manipulative. He is causing a Mistrial FOR SURE!

  4. Tell the hole truth. You and Hylton are law school buddies. Nothing just happens out the blue. This was all planned. Ironic how Woody real attorney all of a sudden had tickets that was non refundable and you get picked to show up in his place. Coincidence,i think not
