I just heard this morning they they found out that the appointee had given the max contribution to the Governor in his 2016 race when he was running as a Democrat. They managed to both appoint a donor for the opposition party, and also allow the Governor to reward a donor at the same time. Impressive…..

So, if you "don't know someone in government", you're VERY unlikely to get a job. Period. You could have the most amazing resume ever…but if the person doing the hiring has a friend who has a 23 year old who just graduated with a degree in Woman's Studies, guess who's getting the job?

And there's nothing anyone can do about it. Because "that's the law and that's the way it's always been done". Up here, the Government (Yukon) is a HUGE employer…as is the City Government. The best 'cushy' thing about getting a Gove/City job isn't the pay…although it's good. Nor is it the extra benefits….again, nice stuff (dental, guaranteed paid vay-cay, etc). The best "perk" of working for the Government up here…it's virtually IMPOSSIBLE to get fired. You would have to actually WORK to get fired. You could just up and decide "I'm gonna fly to Mexico for a week", and just do it. No mention to anyone. You just don't show up for work for a week. Know what happens? "Hey. Don't do that. Susan had to fill out that inventory list for the office and it took her all afternoon one day. Buy her a coffee or something".
