Officer Stephen Vargas explains that U.S. Customs and Border Protection greets high-risk flights at the gate as an additional security measure before the passengers even make it to customs. They stop a man that arrived after spending four days in Trinidad. The man claims to have visited a friend and says he visits frequently. The officers suspect he is hiding contraband since his flight ticket was purchased by another individual. Officer Vargas calls a few people to confirm he is in town to visit them but no one appears to know him. The officers tell him that they believe he ingested the narcotics and ask that he submits to an x-ray of his stomach. When he refuses, they tell him that he will be placed into custody and monitored until he has made 3 bowel movements. Eventually, the man consents to the x-ray and 96 pellets containing narcotics are recovered from his stomach.
