24. The rancher lives on the border where lots of illegals cross, he’s not protected by our government & knows many are drug dealers & traffickers so I wouldn’t wait until they were in close range!! It isn’t known if that illegal was killed by someone else in his own group or by the cartel!! Lots of reasonable doubt & not any forensic evidence plus mitigating circumstances!! The money it would cost that community to retry him could be a huge loss for the community & still not get a unanimous verdict!! He is an American citizen protecting not only his land & family but our country’s border!!!

40. I do not at all contest the need for justice to be blind/impartial. With that said, it is disheartening that some sexual predators/assaulters have the means to hire lawyers who find and who exploit whatever may assist them to free their clients. We may need to figure out a means to keep sexual predators/assaulters from being released and/or from having their convictions overturned due to a technical error up until the victims of their sexual assaults have had their chance to seek justice. Their victims as well as the families, friends, and/or communities of the victims continue to be victimized by what appears to be a catch and release (due to errors) legal system. No victim(s) of a sexual assault ought to experience witnessing their attackers being freed due to an error or for any other reason. ⚖😢

Seriously unless the prosecution and/or police investigation completely fumbled the case I don't understand how that rancher wasn't found guilty of at minimum the assault charges or why he wasn't charged with manslaughter or some sort of attempted murder/manslaughter due to shooting at them so many times at that distance when they posed no threat from that distance.

    I guess I can somewhat understand the mistrial after thinking about it more and hearing why it can pose some doubt but man….. that's absolutely crazy as that guy should not be able to bust off like that and have no repercussions

43. It's abundantly clear that you've never lived on the border or dealt with violent drug dealers! Even if they were ILLEGAL AILENS (BEING IN OUR COUNTRY ILLEGALLY), THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN HERE TO BEGIN WITH! If he wasn't breaking our country's laws, he wouldn't be dead.
    But, with the fear we feel when living in Mexico or on the border of cartels, you'd understand why an elderly man could and would fire shots at illegals on his property. How was he to know they weren't violent cartel members? He didn't and couldn't have. He should be completely acquitted.
    And it's sorry that Weinstein is being released. Just another high profile rapist getting away with rape, AGAIN.

I understand the fear of a senior individual seeing a group of men crossing his property, however, he was not in imminent danger, and he fired 'nine warning shots' with an assault weapon, when they were a football field distance away from him. And he erroneously thought — he claims — that he was firing above their heads. In recent times, too many elderly persons have taken the 'shoot first, ask questions after' stance, which has resulted in several deaths and grave injuries.

    To name two: the man who shot through his door when a 16 year old teen, sent to pick up his brother at the home next to the senior, mistakenly rang the senior's bell instead. He was shot several times through a locked door, during the early evening when it was still light outside. Luckily, he survived. Another senior shot up a car with 3 college students, when the car made a u-turn by backing into the beginning of his driveway. He was a good distance away, in the house or on the porch. A young woman in her early 20s was killed. And there are several more cases, resulting in death, in recent times, across the nation.

    I understand the timidity that comes with the vulnerability of old age, but the elderly cannot be allowed to continue to kill out of unfounded perceived imminent dangers. Something has to be done about educating the elderly gun-carrying sector about learning to differentiate between real and perceived danger, and making the right call when deciding to use 'deadly force'. No one should lose his/her life because of another person's unwarranted fear of harm.

In my country, the Netherlands a warning shot is only aloud straight up in the air, but not inside a place were there are a lot off ppl are walking around, (the damn thing can hit somebody coming down) 2 then there is a shot in the leg, and if for some reason (drugs) it does not work there will be aimed shots at the body, this of course depends if the perp has a gun or a knife.
    Weinstein cant be convicted for a bad char? that depends on what the victims have told being badmouthed by him that is also evidence right.

47. You are basing your opinions based on NOT living on the border where dangerous people are coming across on a regular basis. If you had criminals walking through your yard on a regular basis….you would have a different opinion about guns and protecting your family and property.
