A former University of Arizona graduate student was convicted of murdering one of his professors after he was expelled from the school in 2022. Murad Dervish “lost his mind” and shot Thomas Meixner 11 times on campus. Dervish was expelled from the university after getting into several disputes over bad grades. Paul Ellison said this is why we need a students union, so students are working together to learn the material instead of competing against each other for the professors favor. A students union would have caused other students to notice that something was off about this one student and intervene before it got to this point. I told Chris Cramer I don't support grading on a curve for this same reason.

University of Arizona is guilty of not taking his threats seriously, the evidence was there, and then did little if nothing. They paid the widow and children a lot of money. So sad, a really well respected professor.
