A police officer has the right to detain someone for safety and if you do not resist or cause a problem and they have all the proof that they have no reason to hold you and you are innocent then they let you go. If they come to you and all you do is resist they have all the rights to wrestle you until you, the officers, and the crowed/block is safe.
Good thing he knows the law so perfectly that he knows that, by law, he can't be stopped by the police coming up without them asking his name first. I bet that argument went over real well with the DA. "What!?!?! They didnt ask for your name first? So you ran becuase they didnt ask for your name? CASE DISMISSED!!!"
