33. About the three bishops – I would be surprised if these three men had never coerced or harmed their own wives and/or their children to get their way. I would be surprised if they didn't hide multiple incidents of abuse, including sexual abuse. They were desperate to hold on to their power and keep the wraps on endemic practices. There needs to be deep investigations, and the closed nature of the Amish opened to standards of education and modern morals. It isn't okay to 'just forgive' and thus forget.

37. I was raised Amish and my dad was abusive. My parents spent 6 months at one of these facilities and all they did was tell her to be more submissive and give him more s*x. They've been separated for years now and my mom is such a different person. Bless you for sharing your story and for doing the right thing for your kids. I know it takes strength to do that.
