In this episode of Crime Watch Daily Updates: Imagine growing up with one identity, only to learn 18 years later that you’re not actually who you thought you were.

That’s precisely what happened to Alexis Manigo — first known as Kamiyah Mobley.

On July 10, 1998, Shanara Mobley gave birth to a little girl named Kamiyah at University Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. Hours later, Kamiyah would be taken from a hospital by a woman posing as a nurse, claiming she needed to examine the newborn.

Investigators searched everywhere for Kamiyah, but the case eventually ran cold. It turns out a woman named Gloria Williams took Kamiyah and brought her back to Waterboro, South Carolina, where she was raised as Alexis Manigo.

Everything changed when Kamiyah was an older teen and trying to get a job, but she needed a Social Security card and ID first. Detectives received some tips that led them to Alexis, and a DNA test proved Alexis was actually Kamiyah.

Gloria was arrested in 2017, and in 2018, pleaded guilty to kidnapping the newborn. She was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

In 2022, Gloria filed a motion to have her sentence cut in half to nine years, and Alexis/Kamiyah supported the cause. She wrote in support of the motion, “I am writing this letter in support of my mother, Gloria Williams. I would like to make it very clear that she is my mother. She raised me, and not only provided for my needs, but she loved me unconditionally.”

A judge, however, dismissed the motion. Gloria will continue to serve her 18 years behind bars.

Kamiyah reportedly now spends time in Florida and South Carolina as she builds a relationship with her birth parents.

Let’s take a look back at the case that shocked a Florida community and gave a young woman a new life under false pretenses.

  1. I'm pregnant with my first and these are the things I fear. "Why are you taking my photo? You don't have my permission to do that." You didn't have permission to STEAL a baby but you did, don't try to act like the victim crazy lady!

  2. She's blowing kisses at the court,.. she's just a selfish person. The only she's care about that girl probably cause she's not her biological daughter, cause if she is her biological daughter she will have that same manner as her and that kidnapper will kick her from the house.

  3. For 18 years I would have felt bad for the birth mother but as soon as they were reunited I could see why her loyalty and love was for Gloria. She was the one who was kidnapped and the birth mother settled with the hospital for over a million dollars and didn't have a penny of it left. Her birth mother was supposed to go on that Ayana Vanzant show with her but she bailed on her because she couldn't get over the fact that Alexis loved the only person she ever knew as her mother. She was Alexis for 18 years but then the birth mother just expected her to be Kamiya. The only mother she ever knew was thrown in jail and she was expected to go with total strangers and just forget about the woman that raised her for 18 years. The poor girl was a mess and the birth mother only cared about her own suffering. The birth father seemed to be willing to accept and get to know her for who she was.

  4. What about her REAL !! MOM !!!😭 This girl should be focusing on her REAL PARENTS. WHAT A HORRIFIC THING TO DO ,I Agree 100 years in jail — the real mother has been in her own JAIL ,SO SORRY MOM 🙏

  5. It would be crazy to have your entire world change in a couple of seconds! Finding out that your parents aren’t really your parents and your family isn’t your family. It must have been a lot to process.I
hope that she is healing from this ordeal and has found some peace.

  6. Of course Kamiya love the woman who raised her, & when she(Kamiya) becomes a mother will fully understand how things are(mother's love) well as for the woman who raised her she'll suffer the consequences (jail)

  7. this is actually so sad that this girl has Stockholm’s syndrome and cares about this woman after learning she’s abducted. I understand she is the only woman she has ever known, but I definitely could not look at my “mother” and see her the same after learning she wasn’t actually my mother

  8. Thank you for bringing this series back. When CH was hosting i watched every episode back in 2018-2019 at the hight of my mental health struggles. Watching this with you and the other reports was the only thing i had i could do to relax and bring me joy. Yes that sounds bad because others pain should not bring me joy, yet it did and now i love to see the justice most are now getting.
