COPS TV Show, Officer Joe Morgan Talks About, Stuck on the Tracks, Des Moines Police Department
While on routine patrol, Officer Joe Morgan of the Des Moines (IA) Police Department spots a speeding motorbike and gives chase. The fleeing suspect slips away after Officer Morgan misjudges the height of nearby train tracks – which disable his vehicle. While the officer advises dispatch to halt all impending traffic, he hears the horrifying sound of a fast approaching train. Fortunately, the train is redirected in time and a catastrophe is avoided — so he thinks. A little while later, a second train approaches from the opposite direction as several of Officer Morgan’s fellow officers anxiously try to figure out how to move the disabled vehicle. Eventually , the second train is also redirected and the vehicle is safely removed from its precarious position. The embarrassed officer’s amused supervisor wonders if he should change the officer’s evaluation.

  1. I don't think that one sane person on Earth ever faults this officer. He has had the worst of luck, on the worst of days, and he is doing his darnedest to get out of it. And the universe decides to just keep pouring on him. I gotta admit, I can respect his temper on the whole situation.

  2. that factory in front of the tracks is long abanoded, it was probably still functioning or recetnly closed when this was filmed, one of the coolest places in des moines to explore.

  3. Not to mention the rider on 2001 dirt bike had two other cops try to hit him before getting to train bridge he hide at Hallet materials until his friends picked him up in cargo van he lived on 19th and grand and it don’t show whole chase ask mark sr

  4. And lastly, its very uncharacteristic of me to send any type of warm regards to an officer, for anyone that places authority over you to control you is a usurper and therefore the enemy, however as someone who's lost more than one friend to suicide, and someone whos attempted it myself and still struggles severely with depression, i must give a rest in peace to this man, on that alone. Rest easy, i hope your pain is gone.

  5. Couldve got the jack out of the trunk, jacked the side up that was stuck, and tried to drive it off the jack over and off the tracks. Just a though. Would probably work.

  6. Bro as a local and furthermore a public safety official that should know all the roads better than anyone. Like bro how did you NOT know their was a crossing!?😂🤦🏽‍♂️ he said "i didnt know how tall those things were" bro only huge trucks with 36" and above tires are making it over them.

  7. I dont think the tie rods, control arms, steering rack and just about everything else could have survived when he hit those tracks like that. And then when he tried to get it off it looks like he broke something with the axle with all that smoke pouring out and no traction. He totalled the car. Feel bad for him though, and then hearing he committed suicide is even sadder. Rest in peace!

  8. I expect dispatch to call the union pacific, get past all the automated voices, get to their dispatch and describe where a train needs to be stopped. Then notify to conductor that he needs to stop a 800,000 ton train within a 1/2 mile. Sounds reasonable for a 20 second timespan.

  9. 4 teenagers could've lifted it of the tracks. This was all for show. Bad acting or no f's given for public property is the only shame I see

  10. Sorry to hear about his suicide. This was always my favorite episode of Cops, However I seem to recall that his superior was present and had had report in his vehicle.

  11. Its nice to see everyone on here supporting sgt Morgan after his passing in 2020. Thank you for your service Officer Morgan! We are all human and go through tough times, just remember suicide is not the answer guys, no matter what youre going through there's someone who loves you and needs you here on earth with them. Help is just a call away.

  12. This was an accident, officer never meant to go over it. Looks so wrong after the fact when you don't realize the dust was blocking it.
