We bought this Mechanically Totaled Porsche Panamera S for Scrap Value, and took it straight to the dealer because it was under a Recall that might just cover it’s major engine issue, and make it worth several times what we paid…

  1. I wish I had your skills. You and your mates are incredible. Great video. What do you do with all the cars? Thanks from Australia 🇦🇺

  2. I will never bring a porsche to the dealer after I did recently. I had some CEL regarding timing, they charged me $257 just to inspect the vehicle, their solution to the CEL was a $800 oil change even though I changed the oil three days before…. Brought it to an independent shop for him to diagnose and fix withing two days(Just a camshaft adjuster magnet/actuator).

  3. Great ❤ job! Thanks for sharing this and giving us the courage to do it on our own. Surprised by so much cheap plastic in that engine. Makes me feel like it’s as good as a Chevy and we only pay a premium to satisfy our egos. Cars today are not as good as the legacy of yore.

  4. I had an 🔵 2004 5.7 GTO and even though I'm a Ford guy (mustang really) I miss that car but I don't see paying over $50k for this. In translation it has about -/+570 crank hp which isn't that impressive, but weighing not much more than a mustang of the same era is what helps.

I still think the GTO was a way better/successful vehicle than the G8.

  5. If I worked on cars more often I would buy the Carly OBD2 reader. Since I do not I went with BlueDriver. Carly has a subscription that you need to pay for to get all the features and since I really only work on family or friends cars I do not need that. BlueDriver is about the same price and does all the systems but I think Carly goes deeper. Thanks for sharing these videos. Since you pulled the timing chain off, is it good practice to replace it while your in there even if the chain looks fine?

  6. I wouldn't let my 911 anywhere near a main dealership. Porsche specialist is definitely the way to go. They take pride in their work and are usually enthusiasts. What a bunch of crooks at the one you took yours to!

  7. Great job Sam! You "crac"ed another "dealer don't know" mystery! My only question is why didn't you hold the dealer accountable and make them do the timing guides recall?

  8. You should tell Mike to just embrace the baldness. There's just no sense in growing what hair is there extra long to try and make up where it's not growing at all. Its not fooling anybody.

  9. I like how he rounds DOWN money. It's more like $400 not "Fixed it with a $200 Amazon timing Kit.
It was $234.90 for timing kit + $80 for timing tool + at least $50 for oil + the pulley tool rental, whatever that is and the Gasket material. I say Sam should send us all one dollar for being 'deceitful'. Ha!

  10. That dealership was reaching for the moon on that quote, that's y they are called stealerships by us mechanics. One tip though on timing those, Make sure u bolt the cam locks down to the head for absolute perfect timing. These modern engines are so sensitive that even a degree off can cause issues or SES light, I have done the same thing before many times and it was fine but i found that bolting them down it would move a tiny bit more from where i had them set. Been a long time subscriber since the pizza car days and figured i would just offer a tip on timing, been a mechanic all my life and specialize in European. I work on pretty much everything but euro is where its at, There are also adaptations in the computer that should be reset for the variable cam timing along with a couple other things. You have come a long way since the early days man and when u freshly do a timing chain or have fuel system apart it will take a bit for fuel to get through HPFP and DI injectors. Even when u double check everything there is always a chance to miss something.

  11. When I brought my first 911,, a millennium edition. I took it to OPC winter clinic. They produced a bill of 16.7 thousand pounds to put it right 😂. Never ever did it need 3/4 of the. items mentioned. I joined a Porsche enthusiasts club and the members love to work on the cars. Porsche wanted 11k for some paint and 450 for a tyre. Anyway, I got the items myself and got the paint done for 2K. Dealers quote to put the car back to as new condition. All told I got all that needed doing for just over 3 thousand. I never use main dealers unless I have to. I love Porsche but they are thieves in making work for their service department
Spark plugs for 2400, that really is highway robbery. Shame on the dealerships. That is worse that banks

  12. tell me what a diagnostic tool is. people pushing stupid little scanners is the reason why i have people with stuck rings, dead coil packs, bad wires, stuck injectors, broken valve springs ect ect ect coming into the shop telling me all they need is a single spark plug and stop trying to upsell/scam them.
