Bad Guy Can’t Handle Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu – Everything Law and Order Blog

BJJ Black Belt Ruben Alvarez is also a police officer. It would seem the bad guy picked the wrong day to trespass. On the one hand it was a bad day for him because he got busted, on the other hand it was a great day for him because this cop knew exactly how to handle the situation safely for himself AND the bad guy.

Why should cops train BJJ? Here’s a few reasons from my perspective.

P.S. These onlookers are utterly ignorant of what is happening and it shows.

  1. That cop was no black belt in anything. By tackling that guy like that the cop exposed himself to the possibility of that guy accessing his firearm. The cop had no restraint of the guys arms and he would have been able to reach the cops firearm and use it on the cop.

  2. Over used of force. I train bjj. I'm a purple belt. He had been in control. Didn't need all those police officers for one man.

  3. What brazilian jujitsu? That cops knows shit about jujitsu, the other giy wasnt fighting back,if he did like punch or kick it would have been a different story,he wasnt fighting just resisting. And you bold guy donut head, shut up bout this already you no expert, shut your mouth

  4. Haha I mean I'm glad the cop didn't shot him and I'm glad the guy didn't get hurt from the takedown but why are you selling this as some proof of superior technique against an active opponent? Like the dude never struck the officer and and was stepping away. The dude has his back on the ground and his arms outstretched saying "What are you doing? I did nothing wrong." Any other martial arts would look just as impressive against an opponent not actively attacking. I look forward to your next video how effective BJJ is for school resource officers controlling middle-schoolers…

  5. I 100% agree!!! I love BJJ. I tell all good people and especially my cop friends to learn this. ❤❤❤It's amazing and I miss the fuck out of it. Stupid c19😡

  6. Hey mike the cop whos not a cop. Great video, i like your genuine honesty. Its always inspiring and relatable. I wish this was the first video of yours i was given through youtubes algorithm. Gold all the way through. Nice ground work man. Have you ever used choke hold during an arrest? Do you recommend them? thanks for your time. take care. hope you and yours the best.

  7. that "cuff the cop" video was absolutely AWESOME!!! I could only imagine the next level being a few kids in a fenced in yard trying to catch a greased hog (no disrespect intended…that's just what jumped into my mind). Actually looked like fun…for Mike <3

  8. Really awesome to see BJJ in real life working. I am one of the few female students at my school and BJJ can really help you. Also glad to see the officer and suspect came away from that with no major injuries. I think BJJ or other types of grappling arts should be taught to LEO standard. As for all the people complaining about what the cop did by restraining him, let's be real here folks. Use of force isn't going to look pretty and unlike the movies there isn't some special nerve pinch to subdue suspects.

  9. You guys are so f**** spastic. The cop is spastic. You are spastic and it was completely like beating a baby seal. Lighten up man. I'm sure it's not possible, but if it was and you could step back and listen to your tone, your excitement and your energy is all f*** up. This is a perfect example of NOT jiu jitsu.

  10. Funny fact the brazilian cops don't act like this, because in this situation, was easy for the bad dude take his gun.

  11. Before learning any fighting skills cops need to maintain their PHYSICAL FITNESS.

It is so retarded that departments do not have post academy physical fitness testing/standards that yearly involve meeting certain cardiovascular and strength standards.

Showing up looking a little buff and strack in your uniform can sometimes be a "defensive technique" in itself.

And academies need to stop using physical fitness exercises, like running and push-ups, as punishment.
The only thing they're doing with that is conditioning certain recruits that physical exercise/fitness IS punishment.

Back when I was coming up there was jiu jitsu, but the Brazilian jiu-jitsu was not really a thing yet. One of our Academy defensive tactics instructor was really into yoshinkan Aikido. So I got into that for a couple of years after the academy. And somewhere in there I discovered Arnis/Eskrima. You can see where, as police officer, stick fighting skills might come in handy. Just replace the word STICK with BATON and there you go.

  12. I'm not an expert in grappling but that single leg shot was horrible. No set-up, no penetration step and overall no technique…Just a head first knee dragging tackle 🤮

  13. They keep saying y’all ain’t gotta do em like dat myb he should stop fucking resisting arrest n there would be no problems

  14. BJJ is not for everyone. If you suffer from psychological issues (bipolar/depression/anxiety/post traumatic stress disorder/autism-learning disabilities/paranoid schitzophrenia) this is not the place for you 😮

  15. Definitely a black belt in bjj from the looks of that take down. If a criminal ever tries to butt scoot, that's the only time they gonna be in trouble
