Students from St. Fisher School on Chicago’s Southwest side lined the street to honor PO Conrad Gary during the procession to the church. Officer Gary is the 145th LODD in 2018. My heart is with Chicago PD (whose captured this video) and all departments and families that have suffered a loss this year. God bless you all.

Dude im just glad my grandfather made it to were he doesnt go on patrol anymore unless absolutely necessary. I never want to get a call that he was killed over something dumb like a traffic stop or what have you thankfully it seems he will live till retirement and beyond

As a person who has lived in this city all my life, lived with the "Corrupt" government and anything that follows that, I have to say this city has been bleeding for far too long and needs to be saved.
Yes are many politicians and police officers with in some ranks being bought, bribed, or have turned a blind eye… yes… however I know many, who are close friends/relatives in the police, who have a losing battle in their pursuit of justice. There is too much to fight against beyond just the normal every day asshole most police people deal with. Many say that we need to clean up the street, but when push comes to shove and people are asked where to find someone who has committed the crime, NO ONE speaks up. No one seems to realize that when we all just turn a blind eye we all become as bad as those that are committing the crimes. As I read the comments of others condemning those who have turned a blind eye or keeping their mouths shut, then we need to look at ourselves in the same breath and see if we too are just doing what everyone else is keeping quiet cause we know snitches are found in ditches.. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE… We (Chicagoans) have dealt with too much in the past, and we are still trying to get out from under that (Government corruption, and all the mobsters that ran and some still believe run certain parts).
Any human life taken should be a sad thing. we should all want people to be good, we should all wish that, not only those kids that are standing there hoping that maybe now we have enough voices standing together, showing the world that we DEMAND change, that we do not want violence, that we do not want the asshats on the "criminal or bad" side or the "police or good" side any longer. we want honest, respectful people willing to make sure that No matter who is the asshat they are brought to justice and serve for their crime.
May everyone really just take in that no matter what uniform (cloths) you put on to not be an ASSHAT. be one with the community, stand next to someone in support of good, and keep fighting to get rid of the asshats in society.
Maybe I am just talking out of my ass, and maybe I just need to hold my opinions close, but it sucks to know that I can't go to certain parts of the city for I will either get pulled over and asked if I am buying drugs, or I might get jacked.

This is great. As a resident of chicago that looks up to the chicago police department, and soon to be an explorer. I think this is so cool seeing many chicago kids standing there to honor a great man. Say what you want about cpd, but the department is great, and there are officers I know and the department as a whole that make Chicago safe and give back to the community. I regret that this is off-topic but I only just recently started watching some of your videos late last night and came across the one you did last year about "Should you help a policeman in trouble?"
I saw that you covered the Dallas Off-Duty Apartment shooting incident. However, unless I missed it (I might have; like I said, I only found this channel less than a full day ago) I haven't seen you discuss the issue of the African American CHL holder and US serviceman that was shot while trying to help stop a mass shooting earlier this year. What are your thoughts on the situation in which he was killed? It was either Chris Bird or Mossad Ayoob (I forgot which one) which, although were enthusiastic proponents of responsible Concealed Carry, nevertheless taught that CHL holders should not attempt to interject themselves in a shooting incident lest they be mistaken for attackers and engaged by on-site and responding Police units in just a standard shooting scenario, let alone a mass shooting, specifically so that we could avoid having debacle like this one.
There are some on one side of the issue that argue this incident demonstrated the NRA's notion of a "Good Guy With A Gun" is false, and will only lead to more trouble than help as the threat of mass shooting incidents increases. There are others who maintain that the policy is still valid but that he was a victim of racial profiling despite the fact that his family is adamant about the fact that he was only trying to help. What's your take on any of these subjects?
Obviously, the question becomes less difficult should you be caught on duty and in uniform one day because your shoulder shield will become a "I'm a good guy!" beacon, but, let's assume you are out wandering around and suddenly the gun fire opens up; people start dropping all around you like the D-Day scene from the movie Saving Private Ryan when the landing craft's ramp first lowers, and you may or may not be fortunate enough to see who or where the gun fire is coming from before you take cover, but that by the time you get to your feet, you see multiple potential threats, all of which could either be the sole perpetrator, members of a coordinated attack, or other legally armed citizens caught up in the chaos. What would you do next in this situation as an off duty police officer?
We can assume — or at least hope — that even if you are off duty and not in uniform, that other responding officers will know or at least recognize you by sight from the time you've all worked together, and assume you're not part of the problem should you choose to engage in plain clothes. But what about other non-LEO citizens who may be motivated to confront the threat? Do you believe you are well known enough in your department that your department S.W.A.T. team could consistently and reliably identify you by sight before engaging (I would think the simple answer is "I carry my badge with me off duty and would show it off", but my follow-up questions are "DO YOU carry it?", "DO YOU think it will be enough given the chaos of the situation, and "You know a nutjob mass shooter could probably buy a cheap costume badge that looks like the real thing to use to buy himself some time, right?" (Note: I'm not getting on your case or anything even remotely like that when I ask those questions; I'm merely curious).
Even if you choose not to publicly disclose what it is, do you as an individual have a plan in place for this type of situation (IE: Run and let uniformed PD handle it, regroup with them outside, or stand your ground, etc.)? Surely your department does?
