Drunk driving and its consequences are unavoidable and should most definitely not be a decision that cops struggle with. But, like all professions, we are subject to human frailty and poor decision making. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Before people start talking about how he should have had a harsher penalty, you should research what the NORMAL penalty is for drunk driving. It’s pled down ALL THE TIME. I know because I’ve seen it over and over and over and over again.

There is one time driving drunk may be unavoidable. Hear me out.. There is a condition, I don't recall what it's called, but it can happen at any point in a person's life. All of a sudden, when someone eats carbs, their stomach turns it to alcohol. If someone goes to lunch and this happens for the first time while driving, that's unavoidable. 😉ðŸ˜
n you retire when fired?
I feel for these officers but their lieutenant is an asshat, it's an all too common problem that when people in leadership positions are off duty they stop thinking like leaders. This guy put the livelihoods of the people he leads in jeopardy for no reason, now they have to get used to a new leader and that can be dangerous to the team, the office dynamic and in cases where you might have to get into a use of force scenario, unfamiliar communication habits could potentially endanger their lives. Surely an off duty cop can still have access to a breathalyser or something that can tell them when they need to get a taxi home?
They point out that it's being recorded. They explain that their hands are tied. It's no longer like the old days. We can't let it slide.
Sorry, we're actually going to have to arrest you. :*(
likes the young cop just trying to follow rules but the LT has clearly not fully understood how much shit he is in.
I have so much more respect for traffic cops than I do for the guys in vice. Traffic cops save lives.
Seriously. Don't talk to me about "drugs are bad." I live in a city where the daily traffic report invariably includes multiple vehicular accidents. My father used to be good friends with a neighbor who had a beautiful teenaged daughter. And… a drunk driver left her blind, paraplegic, and brain damaged. (The neighbor had to move away due to the HOA harassing him over his vehicle being "unsightly" because it had a lift for her wheelchair)
In New Jersey refusal to a sobriety test, has the same penalties as conviction of drunk driving.
I do live in NJ
That's a very powerful video. I wish all citizens were treated with the same respect by law enforcement. A few rotten departments and apples really make people distrust the entire orchard.
Yeah I worked with cops in SoCal who thought it was pretty funny when they picked up a drunk co-worker, drove him safely home with another cop driving his car back, and tucked him into bed safely after cooking him breakfast.
To avoid the conflict of interest, couldn’t they have called in another agency?
Just because you see something doesn’t make it the rule. True. So for fairness, why not post a video of all the cops that got breaks for shit like this, or breaks for speeding tickets, just because they are cops. I’m pretty sure there are way more videos of cops letting other cops go just because they are apart of the blue line brotherhood. This is one example of a cop being arrested by “good†cops. But as I said before, how many more videos are out there where the suspect is let go?
Those 2 LEO's are exactly the kind of LEO's I want patrolling the streets and protecting my community. They are exemplars of professionalism in their craft.
The fact is he still received special treatment, any ordinary citizen would not have been afforded the begging and pleading to comply, law enforcement officials should be held to a higher standard because of the countless people they have arrested for breaking any law, his punishment was unfair to the citizens of that town.
He is still a part of the "Blue line club". No citizen would have been treated this gently and you know it. I know it was painfully awkward for these officers to arrest their friend but, that is the job they signed up for. I do appreciate that they actually did the job and didn't cover it up. I have a little more faith in the profession.
Shit they wood hav slammed anybody else to the fuckin ground an charged them with resisting arrest if they wernt apart of “law enforcmentâ€, especially if they were refusing to b hand cuffed! Wat bullshit!! Pussies!!
so what are you saying Mike? what is your message Mike? You don't recommend cops pull over other cops? Are you saying cops should let other cop go and handle it off camera?
Sad
I personally believe DUI should have a similar punishment to manslaughter.
Funny how cop arrests went up after body cameras became required 🤔
NICE WORK PATROLMEN!!
Great policing, very professional
The most fucked up part is these "officers of the law" would have let this prick off if not for the body cameras. All of them should lose their jobs. I believe every single min of ever single hour clocked in as a cop or detective or FBI should be filmed and open for the public after a arrest for prosecution….and if for some reason the cameras fail that should be a HUGE PENALTY to the officer
Officers need to treat everyone like this
"I want to find out who called so I can harass them"
How many morons don't think this would have turned out differently if bodycams weren't present!
That would be a horrible spot to have to be in. Hope he gets some help.
Good video. Boss should have just ate his cereal
He would’ve been escorted home had there not been body cams.
The sad part is that we are seeing more and more DUI's from officers. And we know if it was not for the cameras, unless there was an accident involved, they would be driven home and all would be forgiven. If this would have been a civilian, the penalty would have been much greater. Did he even lose his licence for a year? He was 4 times over the limit.
Mad props to these guys for doing what’s right and handling it professionally!
Glad they got him off the street. That's a tough spot for the officers. Hope the LT does better in retirement and has a long one.
The second he said no he should have been taken to the ground like anyone else.
Should have been handcuffed behind his back, professional courtesy went out the window when he broke the law.
I'm fairly sure that if it wasn't a dashcam or a body cam forcing the officer to make the right decision I'm sure he wouldn't arrest any officer
Imagine if You had to arrest Your own Mother or Dad on DWI
Don't drink and drive because you might spill your beer.
My Grandfather was killed by a drunk driver. The car was flipped and my mother was pinned underneath him. My grand father saved my mother’s life, but he died. My mother was four years old. It wrecked their family.
If you decide to drive after you have a few drinks, you are a fucking asshole.
its the little things that show you the police force is corrupt and they are a gang
Their language indicates a clear culture of corruption in their precinct. I'll bet they haven't addressed that larger problem.
Proper leadership is critical, and this isn't it. well done to the officers.
.36 holy shit. Does he want to drink himself to death??
5:52 "You were my first Sergeant" holy crap… that must be a terrible feeling for everyone involved.
Good to see he didn't get let off. I bet my life it would've been a different story if there were no body cams to record the stop.
And then it just ends suddenly.
Once again class: let’s all say the Magic
word …..
U….BER!!!
On the count of 3 we all say it at once
1
2….
3………
UBER!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no excuse for DUI with Uber and Lyft around
Good to see he didn't get let off. I bet my life it would've been a different story if there were no body cams to record the stop.
